My friend has an 84 boxer that he bought here in canada in 2003. We thought the car came from switzerland to canada and that was it. After some research and much needed help from Marcel we have a pile of information about its life here and there. When I read Fred Repass had the car for sale in 86 in TN with all releases I assume the car must have been converted, at least on paper if not correctly. It was also advertised in NY and CA between 86 and 90 at which time it was sold to a man in switzerland again. The car was originally sold in switzerland new but then it appears it spent time in the USA before going back to switzerland and then came back again in 2001 to canada, sat unused then sold in 03 to my friend. I suspect his boxer was converted in some form shortly after it was new, it has Octagon nuts and an owners manual that shows them and the correct tool to remove them. It spent time in the states and then was shipped back to europe when these converted cars were forced out of the country by the government only to return several years later when the laws allowed. The octagon nuts make us wonder though. Was it part of the DOT conversion for the USA or did all 84 boxers come with nuts rather than spinners? Any input would be wonderful. Also, who is Fred Repass? Ive heard the name and is he still kicking?

    Thanks.

FYI, several countries other than the USA required octagon wheel nuts; I know Belgium did, so Switzerland may have too. You can look at the BB512i parts book and it details what was required in particular markets. Just contact Richard Merritt at the DOT in Washington, DC and give him the serial number and he will be able to fax you the DOT Release letter if the car has ever been DOT certified... Dick will also transfer you over to the proper person at the EPA to obtain the EPA Release as well.

I believe Fred Repass wrote many of the technical articles in the Ferrari Market Letter in the pre-computer age.
