I read a review recently of the Ferrari California. I believe it was in Car Magazine. One of the captions mentioned that Ferrari said the California is going to be the last new Ferrari model to offer a manual transmission. Does anyone know more about this. I know there have been several threads speculating. I can't imagine a Ferrari without that beautiful chrome gate and gear lever.

I wouldn't be surprised, but I would be disgusted.

I think it was the latest Prancing Horse that mentioned durng an article with Ferrari (about the California) that they will offer manual transmissions as long as there's a demand for it.

Take that for all it's worth. YMMV

The only good news about that is that all the sticks out there just went up in value!!! Also, if I remember correctly, I read that the CALIFORNIA would only be available as F1

I hope they don't do this, nothing like shifting on your own. I guess I would stop at the 430 when I get one. Ferrari needs to pay attention to the end users.

In a recent article in Automobile, someone from Ferrari was quoted as saying they are aware that many customers consider the gated shifter an important part of the Ferrari driving experience. He then said the company would continue to offer manual gearboxes until emissions regulations made them impossible.

I hadn't heard that before, but it is true that your shift points while driving have a lot to do with fuel economy and emissions. It's sad, because a manual gearbox is about the last bit of 'sport' left in modern sports cars: everything else seems to have been automated, in full or in part.

If 1st gear spins all the way up to say, 55 mph, then no need to shift during emissions testing, righto ? :)

Similar to one of the reasons why they went from carb to fuel injection. Signs of the times, I guess.

Glad to hear that. I have nothing against all of these automated manuals. But having full control and that third pedal just can't be replaced. Not to mention how good that gated shifter looks.
