so according to another thread it is wholly unnerving to take a 355 in fine standard fettle to 150mph as it becomes light at the front end and is deflected by crosswinds and if there are road bumps you could be killed...............my 355 I drive at 120mph and it is fine.............what can other drivers tell me..............how fast have you travelled and does the car feel stable???

I have seen the good side of 150 a few times.
Both times, the car was a beast. Super smooth, no problems.

I dont do it often but the few times I opened her up I was definitely into the triple digits and it was smooth and stable. no hint of loftiness in the front end.

If your 355 does this then you have a problem car that needs some sorting.
It could be something as simple as an alignement......to as bad as a accident car with frame damage.

There were high speed handling problems with the 348, however they were mostly sorted out with the 1994 348 ragtop (widened the rear track).

maxed out with 8k+ rpm in sixth it takes on a new animal, Its not the bumps you have to be careful about, its your reaction to the feel the car makes at those speeds. Everything is just more sensitive at those speeds.

I think some of the problem may be due to the various suspension components. I am planning on replacing all my OEM rubber bushings with Teflon-impregnated polyurethane (A arms, sway bar, etc.). Remember, some of our F355s are now 14 model years old. In addition, at high speed, I find the variable-assist power steering on the F355 to get too light. I have never experienced any significant front-end lift, although I've never had it higher than 135.

Had mine up to 175 MPH. Let off after that. Lots of air being sucked into the side intakes and the car felt like it hunkered down a bit more due to the downforce. I was on edge of course, but it was 175 MPH.

I've had mine at 140 many times and everything is fine...:) I've also had it to 150 twice the first time was scary, car got pretty lite in front and felt like it was moving side to side just a little. I chalked it up to the road, although I did have pretty old tires on it. The second time at 150 seamed to be better (new tires, and balance) not near what the first time was, but still a little of an uneasy feel...

Been into the 170's a few times, and it felt fine. Obviously this shouldn't be done on a bad road. The car felt planted and stable as the downforce increased.

I've topped mine out plenty of times, but have not in the last 4 months as I'm overdue for new tires but am going to try to get 2 more auto-x runs out of my current set.

The car is definitely not that stable at higher speeds compared to other cars I've driven or owned. The reason is, 15 year old technology coupled with parts that are 10-15 years old now. I don't see myself doing a suspension overhaul anytime soon, as my car only has near 30k miles on it, but it may be something I consider a few years when I am at 60-75k miles.

Thanks! My tires were in excellent condition, Michelin PS2's and the car tuned to perfection. I would have to say that the suspension on the F355 is a bit softer than I would like, but like many have said, the car is 14+ years old now.

It is possible. The redline on the F355 is approx. 8,500 RPM. The car just screams at that level and even more so with an aftermarket exhaust, ie) Tubi, Capristo etc. Still IMO one of the best sounding Ferraris or even the best sounding car ever built!

Here just have a listen and judge for yourself:

Yes its easy possible, i do it quite often my self. Heres a video of a 355 topping out at 190MPH (indicated) and if you watch you can clearly see that about 1.24 to 1.40 into the film that the rev counter is at the 3 'O' Clock position which is 8,000RPM and its still rising as the top speed has not yet been reached. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mcIBGzQU5Xc

You sir have very massive testicles!! It's one thing to hit 190 indicated, but to hold it there for quite a while, with some traffic, and at dusk - that is another matter entirely. How long do you plan to keep your drivers license?? LOL

Are you relying on your speedo or was that based on radar? Many cars are off as much as 20% above 100 MPH.

I had a 355 timed on a 2 1/2 mile ex runway at a speed challenge event (4 runs). At an indicated best of 176mph, i went through the speed trap at 170mph. The runway was not long enough to reach the top speed of the 355, so a speed traped 170 was all it could muster.
