Got a licensed Ferrari traveler coffee mug for Christmas, which I thought was ironic, considering Ferraris don't have cupholders...but I digress. Anyway, put hot coffee in it this morning, the mug expanded, and the seal became dangerously loose. I took one look at it, and thought, only the Italians can make (license) a beautiful mug that can't hold coffee, then I thought, its not the mugs fault, it probably just needs a new seal, seals wear out, and they are maintenance items anyway. So now I am thinking, do I bring my Mug in for a major service? How much will it cost? I figure owning a Ferrari mug works out to something like an extra $1.00 for every cup of coffee, when you consider maintenance costs. I can live with that, I mean, it is a Ferrari mug, and nobody makes a mug like Ferrari.

I'm sure if you hand deliver it to Maranello the Classiche Dept. will repair and certify it for a very reasonable sum. It might take a few years to get it back, but it will be worth it to get it done properly.
    Cheers,

Billy Mays will sell you an extra large set of Mighty Putty sticks, and that should put it right back into service.

Obviously the engine has to come out to replace the seal. ;)

For those of us who SELL the Ferrari Travel Mug, this is quite disturbing.

I have not gotten a recall notice,or even a factory advisory on this situation. I would expect some kind of notice so that I can tell my customers that Ferrari has devised a careful work around for this issue.

Oh wait, this just in. Ferrari notice #2 for 2009. "Travel mugs may have bad seals. We suggest going to the ceramic upgrade. Simple to fill and cools faster, making coffee easier to drink sooner. See attached photo for actual replacement parts. Also available in optional red."

Somebody dropped my red Ferrari mug a couple weeks ago, shattered the handle into 4 pieces. Luckily I was able to crazy glue the handle back together and the mug has returned to duty, this time as a pencil holder. He had a good life as a mug, we will all miss him.

Just so you know, Ferrari mugs are exceptionally fragile and not really fit for anything but occasional sunday morning coffee, had you bought a Porsche mug, you could have played basketball with it and it never would have shattered.

I am always found it weird that my yellow one was of such better quality than my red one. The yellow one is yellow throughout while the red is white on the inside. I love my yellow mug, use it 75% of the time now that red has entered retirement.

if it's a $10 seal then you probably have to budget a penny a mile. Remember, that's a LOT, especially when you consider that your average low millage Toyota licensed travel mug NEVER needs a major.... :p

that's why a lot of Ferrari mugs have so few fill ups.
lots of people have other mugs for DD's (daily drinkers).
and as usual, they cost more from the dealer, if you can even get one; you may have to be on a "list".
of course, if you buy lots of other stuff from your dealer, you might get one close to msrp, but you may have to sign a "contract".
(this may be illegal in some states).
and we always advise that you get a PDI (pre-drink inspection) before laying out your hard-earned money.

Will the future value of the mug be diminished if you DIY the major instead of sending to a dealer for service ? How about if you document the major with pics and save the receipt for the parts? Also if the mug is damaged by another party should you seek diminished value from the ins. co?

Unfortunately there will always be some cabinet queen out there messing up the value for the mugs that were used by true enthusiasts. It's 1989 all over again.

the values of those 'cabinet queens' are falling, just a much as the used/abused ones. (see the "are prices falling" thread in the vintage mugs section).

If your coffee is strong enough to debond the badge on the outside of the mug .. think of what it is doing inside your stomach. YIKES !!
