My Ferrari mug needs a major

Am I crazy to think this?

I have a red Ceramic, but really want white. As a white Ceramic is next to impossible to locate... I am thinking of painting it white. Thoughts?

 

Buy a white mug, buy a sticker.

That would make it a kit mug. We hate fakes around here. Besides I seem to remember Bob's House of Mugs selling a look alike mug in the 80's a Ferrari sued to shut them down.

 

NO WAY...In my database we would still show it as Red Ceramic..Thus wrecking the value..why not keep the mug the color you choose?

That brings me to the pedigree of your Mug and why 2 mugs may look the same but be very diffrent in terms of the pedigree...I was reading another poster here and the poster let his Mug sit over the weekend without proper clean up, I can only assume that means that this mug has not been treated very well. Also make sure that your has the right handle! If it has a cloned handle it make not work properly and then you would looking a major cost to replace and or update...I know alot of Mug dealers will tell you not to worry about the handle and that theycan order you a new handle no issue..but what they dont tell you is to get the handle to work right, it has to shake hands so to speak with the old one!

It pays in the end to make sure you have a pedigree mug with everything it is supposed to have...and is the factory color!

Can someone tell me a way to determine if my mug has a 2.5 ounce or 2.7 ounce per minute variety?

Also, I really like the look of the ceramic mugs, but like the function of the travel mugs top. Can anyone tell me if I can fit a travel mug top onto a ceramic style mug? Are they the same size diameter? Would I need to order spacers? Would I have to change out the seal (i.e. larger or smaller seal to ensure a good fit). Do I have to worry about if I use my ceramic mug with a travel mug top while on the track, do I run the risk of the top falling off and spilling fluids all over the place?

 

Not sure I've ever seen a mug as small as 2.5 or 2.7 oz, are you SURE you have a Ferrari mug? Their displacement is usually significantly larger, starting at 8.0 oz.

As to spilling fluids, it's a FERRARI mug. If you can't handle a few drips, you probably should look into a Porsche or Corvette mug, a Ferrari mug isn't for you.

Also, a warning for everyone to be very careful of Euro spec mugs - These often have the handle on the wrong side and dealers won't honor the warranty.

 

I heard a rumor that if you drop your mug it might catch on fire. Is there any truth to this? I like to drink hot coffee and have noticed that the mug tends to get really hot. This really concerns me.

 

All mugs have the same risks...Fmugs are just more rare then other mugs so when one does crash or catches fire its more widly broadcasted....

 

What do you guys all do to afford your Ferrari mugs?

I have a white one with a sticker on it that I might consider trading, but you'll have to toss in an Audi mug and a Volkswagen mug and now, a Porsche mug.

I get a new one every two years, I just put the old one back in inventory (in its retail box) and grab another one.

 

I'm gonna need a photo of you with the mug, and the user ID's of three guys here who have seen you with your mug, with coffee in it.

Just curious, does Robbie offer 'Sticky No More' for mugs? Since I use sugar, I seem to have that problem... is it a common problem? Do you have to replace the sticky bits with parts from Daniel? Are the parts even available for the early mugs?

My mug is technically a Dino mug. It's much cheaper to buy, but unfortunately the maintenance is the same. Some of the ferrari highbrows do look down on me because of this. But I don't care, I get 90% of the coffee for 10% of the price.

Well I commend you for not having a cabinet queen, but clearly you paid the price dearly in the astronomical repair bill you will receive. I keep my mug in the cabinets and only take it out to give it a good wax. It has only been used with distilled water and is in absolutely mint condition. A real concourse winner! Never seen coffee OR tea. I feel bad for people that make their Ferrari mugs endure such abuse because at the end of the day It isn't my mug. I am only saving it for the next F-mug owner.

Now if I can only find a build slot for the new "stripped down" mug. I hear it does away with all luxuries such as insulation and whatnot. I can't wait to have it in my cabinet to share rooms with my other mugs. I am afraid however, that demand for this mug will greatly outweight demand and I sincerely hope to god that my choice in changing the fluids of my previous mugs alone does not jeopardize my relationship with the dealer.

 

Is there a detailed step by step restoration of a mug detailed somewhere ?
