The manual says use 95 octane - is that right.....?
Pumps usually say MON+RON/2. I think it says premium only somewhere, I only fill it all the time, but I use nothing but premium. It'll run on less but compression and knock would be bad idea. I'll look for sticker
I suspect it would run just fine. It has computerized engine management and knock detection. Car and Driver did a piece on this a few years ago, using a BMW 3 series. They found that the car ran fine on either fuel, but with premium fuel they got about a 5-10% improvement in performance, which makes sense if you consider what the computer is doing. I expect the 599 would be the same. But, considering the cost of the car, why not run it on premium fuel? If economizing on fuel is a concern, I don't think the 599 is right for you ;-)
Let's do the math. At best a thirty cent/gal difference times 25(?) gal fill = 7.50$ savings. How many fill-ups before the car pays for itself?
Never gave it any thought. When I open the hood and I stare at that beautiful 12cyl. 611 horsepower. $75K. engine? With Rosso painted valve covers. I just have to assume its going to be drinking the very best. Really can't understand why it would be otherwise? By the way, does anyone know the price for a 599 engine only?
Bigger problem-you'll lose your "Friends of OPEC" badge and decoder ring if you don't use premium. Regular in a pinch is tolerable, but no WFO runs on low-cal. I was stoked the other day, I got 9.1. Balloonfoot, that's me.
I had a client once in Indonesia who used the "regular" fuel in his 599 and was just fine, no knocking either. I think the octane rating was 95 as well.
