288 GTO, F40, F50, or Enzo? give me your guys' opinions based on looks and performance. im interested to know what other people think. personally, i like the F50 the most -- both in appearance and performance.
I've never been in a GTO or an F50, but I've been fortunate enough to ride in an F40 and two Enzos. I'm partial to the Enzo.
Brian, may I humbly ask you as to why 288GTO ? I have not heard much personal experiences regarding this car and I am quite curious. Thank you in advance for your opinion. w/ smiles Jimmy
On paper the F50 2249lbs tons of power potential, open top option, roll up windows can't beat that looks Enzo
I'll vote 288 for looks. Must praise the F50 for the purity of the NA V12. The F40 & Enzo are amazing pieces of machinery, but they leave me cold.
F50. Although my opinion may be less valuable as I have driven none of them... I would probably say that whichever one I could attain to would be the best.
201 mph... I'd probably vote for the F40. Not the prettiest Ferrari, but it's a computer-free beast, with performance that's still amazing 20 years later. If I had the cash, I'd buy one with my own money. Disclaimer: I haven't driven one, and I've heard they're pretty harsh - more a track car than a road car. Runner up would be the beautiful 288 GTO. Also much rarer.
I'll take any of 'em! I had an opportunity to ride shotgun in a 288 GTO. I have to say, it was one hell of an experience! I'm saving my pennies right now for an Enzo...at this rate it will probably be 1/18th, but then again, with the prospect of a $100k 599? I kid, I kid!
288 - It just looks right. Classic, not contrived, the ultimate iteration of the Dino/308/328 lineage (see, all they needed to do was turn the engine 90 deegrees!!), without getting or looking bloated. Perfect proportions. I would prefer a NA engine with the same power, but oh, well. The 288 just ...... does things to me. The faster F40, similar as it may be under the skin, just looks like it's really trying too hard. The F50, NA, functional and effective, just looks like it's lost its way in the wind tunnel. Faster still, the Enzo, amazing technology, even more outstanding on a track, but looks robotic, neck-deep in Anime design, and waaaaay to many computers to argue that everything is/isn't/might be alright....or not. Blech.
Unless you want to be a rock star every time you drive and fill up with gas and be the constant subject of cameraphone pictures, then the ONLY way is 288. I love the fact that pretty much no-one gives me a second look. That is of course the opposite to the exact reason many buy one of the other three
I have never liked the looks of the Enzo but I have tried hard to do so. I still don't get it but I have seen the things tracked at the Cavallino and in the hands of a good driver they do pretty good. I have also seen the F40's on the track and they also seem to do a good job but not as fast as the Enzo. I like the looks of the F50 but I don't like the carbon fiber showing thru the paint. That may be a turn on to somebody but I don't like it as well. The 288 does look really good and is a beautiful car. The 288 doesn't come across as super exotic to me but that is not meant to be a put down. Seeing the F40 with engine bay open is impressive. It looks like a race car. I have never owned any of the cars so my view is limited a lot to my impressions. I like the F50,288,F40, Enzo in that order. Once I drove all the cars who knows.
Its hard to define "best" and each of the cars has different areas where they can be considered best. But, for me, aside from the fact that the GTO is the descendant of the famed 250 version, it is and will always be the first of the line of Ferrari Supercars. The GTO is also striking in its sublime beauty & simplicity, and it just ages so damn gracefully!
The F40 is the best modern Ferrari hands down, this thread can now be closed Seriously, ever read a bad writeup on an F40 ? ...and it will never go un-noticed rest assured.
If they were all sitting right in front of me, and someone said, "Just pick one and it's yours," I wouldn't hesitate in the slightest bit. F40
Have driven 288 & Enzo, and owned an F-50. Never driven an F-40. Of the 3, I say F-50. But, if you lined them up and said, "go pick one," I'd take the Enzo.
Haven't driven or sat in any of them, but I did have the pleasure of seeing a 288 GTO parked beside an F-40 in the museum/collection at Maranello Motors, Ferrari of Ontario, just north of Toronto. Seeing them all under one roof was certainly a memorable event. The 288 GTO seems to be more of a pure, traditional sports car compared to F-40 which looked a little too over the top with the bodywork design. Downstairs in the shop was an Enzo which was even more wild looking. The Enzo reminded me of The Concorde with the nose flared down upon descent. Incidentally, the Enzo's mirror was quite likely swung forward as the car had just been rolled inside by technicians at the end of the day. I can't begin to imagine the feeling and performance that these rolling sculptures would provide. At this stage, they are just a dream to work towards with the GTO being my first choice Cheers-Colin Firth-Ontario Canada Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
