I just ate some peanut butter; am I going to die?
All the articles I've read state the opposite. I just ate 2 handfuls of Planters Peanuts (unsalted). Hopefully I'll make it through the day.
Thanks to all of you. It seems that my consumption of peanut butter has led to my demise. I must go now, much to my regret, I bid adieu my friends. Who could have ever guessed that eating some peanut butter would lead to my death?
Have you guys ever tried "Natural" peanut butter? The oil collects at the top of the container and you have to stir it every time you open the jar. It's healthier and depending on what you're used to can taste very similar to regular peanut butter.
I agree. For a youngster, young or old, a life without Charles M. Schulz is a life lived at least one notch down from where it could have been. I had only one thing to say on the day he died. "Rats!" http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/cartoonamerica/images/ca074-09123v.jpg
I always worried about aflatoxins in peanuts that got wet before processing, a particularly carcinogenic group of counpounds that lead to liver cancer. You never see any warnings about it so I suppose they aren't that common.
Ya know, I always found it interesting Charles Schulz passed the eveing before the very last Peanuts strip went into print in all the papers.
I've had the same thought since the 70s (when I worked at a food company). The microbiologists that I worked with told some particularly scary stories of foodborne pathogens. Aflatoxin is pretty insidious (like exposure to asbestos). You will find yourself hopelessly dying long after the exposure. These joyless folks could see danger in every mouthful, I wouldn't want to do their job.
Stranger things have happened. Enzo Ferrari's mother (nee Adalgisa Bisbini) died from choking on a boiled egg.
Did she F'in try to swallow the thing whole? Even so, flex your larynx and crush that egg! How embarrassing!
Ok, salmonella doesnt usually kill you. Just makes you wish you were dead after several days of constant vomiting, diarrhea, severe gut cramps, etc. Lots of my body builder friends ended up in the hospital after eating chicken they did not prepare w/ care. Dehydration is the primary health concern. Last year it was spinich. So now it's peanut products (nut processed butter). Basically, salmonella bacteria is killed by heat so cook your eggs, chicken & peanuts well.
I'm going to be making a dish that uses spinach, tomatoes, peanut butter, and quinoa. Those first 3 ingredients have had food poisoning outbreaks in the past year and quinoa can be mildly toxic if not properly washed. I feel like I'm tempting fate... perhaps I shall call it "Death Stew".
