I have gone through every page of this thread and it is absolutely amazing!! I used to work for a performance shop in Austin, TX and I sent this link to the guys who used to work with me who were the machinests. They've been calling me unable to talk because of their jaws on the floor in amazement. Yes, I took a whole chunk of hours to read this whole thing, but as mentioned before it was WELL worth the time. I have also been following the Gas Turbine in a TR thread. You guys are NUTS!! I LOVE IT! Please keep up the great work, you are absolutely amazing.

    Thanks for the read,

    Brian Hamilton

Mark, How did you do the radius around the bolt holes?

I put together my new/old barn find friday night! Got 4 chucks and tooling with it too. I wanted to put it together before going to the Expo so I could see if I was missing anything. I just ordered a phase II wedge type quick change tool post for it. I'm trying to decide if I should sell my old Atlas lathe now? No more change gears for me! I still wouldn't mind picking up a lathe one day that wasn't built before I was born but this ones in good shape and I was friends with the previous owner.

I took a couple pics from the Cabin Fever Expo but I'll start a new thread for them in the Mid Atlantic section. If anyone has more pics feel free to add them.
http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=138351135#post138351135 The 18 cylinder 4 stroke radial engine this guy built was pretty impressive.

    That's sure not a new piece :)

Make sure it cuts straight before you get rid of the other machine, but if it does I don't see why you would need 2 or anything smaller then this one.

I thought I would have to go pretty light , but I was going .100" deep at the full depth on the OD with no problem.

    Brain,you're a crazy man :)

I guess you're friends must have know you have to be a little crazy to buy a ferrari to begin with......so if the average in a population is shifted you have to expect a few more to be just a bit further off the deep end. :)

    OH, and thanks.

I finished up the mill work tonight except for a counterbores on the 4 small bolt holes and I think it's looking pretty good. An hour or 2 with the grinder tomorrow and it should be good as new.

On a totally unrelated note I found out that burns stainless (header people) will run the engine through a program they have and make a recomendation on header/exhaust design. The only hold up in I need to know the cams timing. I need to rattle the cams guys chain a little I more I guess.

This is looking very good, a milestone. A lot of places where this stage of the build could go wrong.

An important milestone I think. There is still quite a bit to do to finish up this housing/gear assembly but I think this is where the project turns a corner as it becomes clear that the stupid think can be finished. Up to now there was a lot of hope involved, now it's down to persistence I think.

Thanks, these look a little better yet I think. The rough grinding is done, now I need to get into a few corners with a smaller bit and have at it with the sander.

Hopefully just 1 more night and you won't know it was ever touched :)

That is what I thought, in the end it will look like nothing has happened. Probably good when stopped roadside by the law. Or do you register all the changes officially in the cars registration?
It should be in the big car magazines for hotrods and magazines for performance cars. Also in a TV show, maybe even BBC Top gear (don't let them drive it though).

The US rules on what to do with custom stuff are state by state and run from nobody cares to new title with new VIN, a full inspection of all work, serial numbers, receipts and proof sales tax was paid on for all parts. Here in PA it's the latter…technically. That said the only place I've ever heard of tickets being given for playing loose with the rules is the emissions Nazis in CA. If you give them a reason or seem a bit shifty they may run your engine SN and VIN to see if they're stolen, but they wouldn't care or even check if the 2 number belong together.

Things like tires sticking out of fenders or clearly rubbing the fenders, loud exhaust, car so low it drags, truck so tall you can walk under it will all get you a ticket in most every state. Things like engine swaps, wheel swaps, suspension mods, body kits/mods, brake mods, are not given much attention as long as the stuff is bolted on good and works so you can pass an annual mechanical inspection if your state has one (most do).

Here in PA to pass the mechanical the suspension needs to be tight, the lights, wipers, horn, and parking brake all need to work and the car has to drive right which basically means the brakes work. There is no counting cylinders, comparing wheel or tire size to OEM specs, comparing appearance to OEM pictures or anything like that.

I like stuff to look stock and untouched when I'm finished with it just because that's how I like things to look. Some people like every mod to show, stickers or emblems on every aftermarket part as well as the windows and doors and such….I don't. I want to be able to tell people the car was ordered with the V12 option which is why it also has the GTO valance and bumper as that was part of the package and have them walk away believing me….as long as I can keep a straight face that is :D

Even better, it's on ferrarichat :D

    Thanks Wil.

I knew there was a nice looking part trapped under all the weld and chunks of billet just waiting to be cut out and set free ;)

Funny! Not to insult anyone but that reminds me of an old expression about every fat man having a skinny guy inside trying to get out.

It IS amazing what you can find inside of a lump of metal if you work hard enough at it.

I'm going to call it good enough on the finish, not perfect but good enough. I still need some counterbores and I think I'm going to add 2 more bolts on the corners of the block. I need to mess with the gears a bit more too, a couple more nights to wrap it up. Then the 6 of you still following this after a year aren't going to like this, but I really have to get a side EFI install job done I promised so this will have to sit a few weeks.

You must realize there are far more than 6 people watching this (Lurkers!, like me). Go make some side money, I'll spend the time installing my deep euro front valance, and check in once a week !!!

(Squirt some of that acid based "rough mag wheel cleaner" stuff on that bellhousing and it will look like an original Ferrari factory casting by the time you get the EFI sideproject complete.)
