How long could you enjoy your current lifestyle using only your liquid cash? No royalties, stocks/bonds, retirement disbursememnts, lottery winnings or other investments. Just plain old cash.

    1 month?
    1 year?
    numerous years?

My current lifestyle? Jeepers... (figuring in head)...

    2 - 2.5 years...but then I'd be on the dole...

    About two years.

But of course if I lost all but my liquid, my spending would drastically change!

I'd do pretty well, it's cheap to live as a homeless gypsy ;)

Isn't liquid cash a pretty poor place to have the majority of your wealth?

And yes, this is a e-penis thread. Never forget, one car wreck/lawsuit/slip and fall and you can be broke faster than you can believe.

Maybe three years with pork and beans, no vacations, long weekends and the wifey's addiction to her double frapa-whatever she orders. I have always carried a year of house payments and about a year ago, we started putting it away to extend that. Nowadays, you have no choice to do anything different.

Actually I thought it was a pretty good question. In the past few days I have been sort of afraid to invest the cash I do have coming in as nothing seems to be moving up at all. I would assume others too would have larger than average cash on hand right now.

The problem that many people get into is that they do not budget as if they were bringing home 25-30% less money than they actually do! I have been doing that for about two years and it has paid off as far as savings go. You need to think 'If I were to lose my job tomorrow, can I replace that job at the same pay within 2-3 months'? If the answer is no, one should re-think their spending habits!

I assume you mean no income either. In that case I bet I could swing it for 11 years or so but I don't have a wife and child either, I bet that keeps a lot of these numbers low so far.

Correct. No income, no earnings, no dividends, no anything, just strictly cash. (It can be in a CD/MM vehicle however.)

Well, for $89.99 I can sell you my new book "how to live like a hobo".

And you'll have a penny left over to get started.

This is exactly how I measure myself financially.

All cash? Paying prop taxes, homeowners, car payments, mortgage, food, electric, health insurance, gym membership, eating out once a week, gas for the cars, groceries, car insurance, cable...exactly 18.7 months according to my spreadsheet. We have a pretty fixed lifestyle, so it's fairly predictable.

Yes, I am anal about my cash position.

About 20 years. I got rid of most of my stocks in 2007 and went to a cash and PM position. No bills but taxes, food, internet and insurance so I can live cheap. I have a farm so I can grow food and go even longer. I hardly spend any money these days compared to when I was younger.

I just paid out $45 in credit card bills so I now have $35 for gas, food and utilities until may. I think I may be in a sticky situation :p
