Hobe sound and Stuart are pretty sleepy slow towns. They are both pretty close to Palm Beach / West Palm if you want to go to a show or a club. I think Stuart has more to offer, with a small downtown. Hobe sound seems to be in no man's land. If you don't want to do anything but boating, Hobe Sound is perfect! Look into the tax millage rate wherever you are going, the property tax man here is INSANE!!! BT
I remember the first Hooters restaurant in St Pete in the 80's. I thought what a stupid idea, the Bikini car wash down the street was a better idea. Shows what I know.
It's in Apollo Beach.. quiet area on the east side of the bay. House is ~2500sq ft, 3 car garage, pool, 3br 3ba on a deep and wide canal a few hundred feet from the open bay (dock + boatlift in the backyard). Typical gated community, some car guys on my street (Ford GT a few doors up and a Bentley CGT a few doors up from him), etc etc. I bought it for weekend use but never really moved in, so I'd like to rent it out or sell it for enough to pay off what I owe on it since I spend all my time in DC. If you're serious about moving to FL you might want to spend some time in the various cities to get the vibe you're looking for. Mrpbody44 summed it up pretty nicely I think. But yeah, Tampa has some of the best strip clubs and of course the original Hooters I'm moving into your town to wreak havoc on your womenz Actually I'm just staying in DC where I've always been. FL was always a weekend place for me... getting the urge to spend my weekends traveling to random places instead of FL for now. -R

Well, that's where my parents live--New Smyrna Beach, about 20 miles south of DB. I think the comparison means "It gets cold in the winter". Not a bad place, great beaches and restaurants. But not what I would call paradise.
Ft. Lauderdale is great, lived there for 1.5 years near the beach. I was going to the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, loved the school, loved the area. I worked at a place called CD Solutions there and Blockbuster Videos. Loved the weather, loved the beaches, loved the city (the only thing I hate about the city is you stop at a stop light and you have about 25 people trying to sell you a newspaper or get money from you) loved the people, hated the girl that I was living with at the time and the financial mess that she got me into so I had to come back here. I would go back there in a heartbeat to live again!
If you want a new place on the water that is relatively inexpensive, my sister and I had a house built last year in Homosassa. Don't mind the name, but it is a nice little 3/2 Florida style house on stilts on the water. We are selling it for a pretty substantial loss.
