    outstanding post!

    and great pics!

i wonder how many euro cars there are here, and if having EPA DOT papers matters much anymore now that they are older. ( i have papers for my car)

    Aaron,

why does your euro have the rectangular front fender signal lights? I understood the euros had the simple small, round reflectors.......

I wish I had a way of finding out how many Euro cars are here. I found the USA cars through FNA's records. I am sure that some of the Euro cars that were imported in period have since been re-exported.

All part of "proper" DOT conversion.

Thanks, Michael. I take it they all HAD to do this, right? Do you know if they also had to convert other "non conforming specs" (forget Calif)??

I am not sure. It is not in any of my 80's color swatch guides.

In the period you were supposed to install 5 MPH bumpers, USA reflectors (front and rear), 3rd brake light (after 1986), door support beams, and safety glass. Just for DOT compliance.

Beautiful, mine is Blue Sera, with the awesome Creme (Vin: 44645). From the research I have done, my car was originally delivered in Germany, it is a 1983, and it was shipped to the US and federalized imediately apon delivery.

I was not aware that there were no Blue 308 GTBs delivered in the US via Ferrari North America. One more reason not to sell. The EUROs are the most desirable and the exhaust note is unmistakable relative to the US cars.

This is mine. I bought it a year and a half ago, and get serious high offers, but I never said I'd sell and don't plan on it. The total production run of 308's
(1975 - 1985) is 12,004. There were only 748 GTB QV's, and most of those were American models. Very few were Euro models. The 288 GTO style was based on the Euro version 308 GTB

Gorgeous. I too have had some offers and I am NOT SELLING. I have a friend that sold his 308 gts and bought it back, sold it again and said he may buy it back again. Crazy stuff. After completing my engine out rebuild recently, there is no way I will sell. The last on the list is to do a complete suspension redo, so it will drive like it just rolled out of Ferrari spa in 1983.

Let's see... 748 GTB QV's.......39 USA models..... How is that most of them? The GTB might has well not have existed in the USA. Everyone wanted a red/tan GTS with a trunk load of Hawaiian shirts and fake mustaches. The GTB was popular in the wet European climate. Therefore most QV GTBs are EURO models.

That is what I was about to say also. Most GTBs I see forsale are Euros. Hardly ever see any US spec GTBs forsale.

    This would be mine.
But poking around the original bills, I have to question the 1/17/84 delivery date.
    I have a lease agreement dated 6/15/83
I have a bill for some part dated 8/10/83 (looks like $115 for a Jack)
Then the shop bills start 1/24/84 for
    1) Intermittent R/ft headlight motor
    2) freezing hand brake
    3) driver door lock sticking
    4) rear hood not closing well

on 3/28/84 it went in for it's 1200 mile service

( I KNEW I'd find a reason to hang on to the original service records :) )

Nice move up from the black one. Did you by chance save those nice extra wheels for this car?

Would anyone have a list like this for euro QV GTS's? I have an '83 GTS QV euro in the color Grigio with tan? (not crema) interior.

I'd be curious to know just how many euro's in THAT color were imported.

Thanks for any help with this.

INTERESTING. I have TRIPLE checked this. According to FNA's records, your car's "official" warranty start date was 1/17/84. I wonder if someone got an extra 6mos. warranty? Who was the dealer who originally sold it?

Well, all I can say is that record keeping was not as good back then as it is now. Also, most new Ferraris were not pre sold back then either. The dealer may have sold the car at one time, but not delivered it until a few months later? Nowadays Ferrari wants the warranty punched as soon as it arrives at the dealership! There was a NY dealer (NOT WIDEWORLD) who lost his franchise for warranty fraud dack in the 90's.

That is correct. I had US #57025 some years back and did some research. I think about 50 USA models were brought in. The rest are Euros. Everyone wanted to be Magnum in those days. Sadly, a number of cars were tarted up to look like 288's and some were made into track cars as well. A long time dealer told me that even in the early 90's, all B's were very difficult to sell. This started to change in the mid 90's.

If you have the original books, the "in service date" should be in the service booklet. I believe that, by law, the warranty cannot begin until the car is delivered to the first retail buyer.

    Bill,

Well this car has the 16" wheels on it, which is what I upgraded the '82 to. I do, however, still have the original 14" wheels from that car. They've been stacked in my garage since I sold it and I'm wondering what the heck to do with them....

    Cheers,
    Aaron

A euro or US 308 GTB QV (rosso dino) one Ferrari I really want to own. I've been saving up for quite a while but during this current economic meltdown & dealing the my mother's estate (& taxes), the dream of owning one soon keeps getting pushed further back.
