Dear silvergts1998, Congratulations for your thread ! It's just an ultimate goldmine for any 512TR owner !!!!!!!!!! Your pics are excellent, and your explanations straight and easy to understand even for non-experts. I was wondering if you were satisfied with the sound of your sound system. I had the loudspeakers changed in my 512TR (and also installed a good CD player), but the bass come too strong and make vibrations in the doors, even at normal listening volume. Did your dynamat film clear that issue ? Also, did you ever remove the door and side grills ? My car was deep detailed this summer, but I couldn't figure out how to take the grills out, so we couldn't access this area... very disappointing when compared to the shine of the rest of the car... Cheers
To remove the door grillwork, you will have to remove the inner door panel first. Inside the door, you will see a steel retainer strip of metal about 10 or 12 inches long, a half an inch wide, with 5 nuts & bolts. This strip is what secures the leading points of the door strakes. Then there are also some allen bolts at the rear edge of the door that hold the strakes/dividers, one near the door handle, and one at the bottom of the door. Take great car when removing and handling the strakes, you don't want to bend or scrape anything, perhaps have someone help.
Thanks carguy, maybe that's were I had the issue: the front nuts need to be taken out from the INSIDE of the door ? I had expected that the strakes were held by the Allen screws and the two extra screws towards the middle of the strakes... and somewhat not hard-fixed in the front by the nuts. Can you pls confirm so that i don't open-up the mess inside the door if i misunderstood ?
Yes....the front nuts are removed from inside the door, with the window in the up position of course. It's not a bad job to remove a TR inner door panel, just be gentle and you will be fine.
I will post up pictures of the intake, valve covers, airbox all going back to OEM silver wrinkle finish. Keeping everything OEM as much as possible. I think this car will be up for sale, but not giving it away. Too much work and love went into this car. Any reasonable offers I will look at, but silly offers won't even get a response.
I really respect the work you did on your TR Adam...but the economy won't....sorry. Buyers are looking for "silly" prices now....reasonable won't cut it. I've seen an 05 430 for 115k, 99 360 80k...etc, etc. Might as well just hold it and enjoy all the great work you did. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
That is why I am not in a rush to sell it. I can sit on it forever. Just don't drive it much anymore.
Holy cow! I am so late in finding this amazing thread. Nice work all around, Adam. Thank you for all of your documentation - this is priceless. I hope I can see your car in person one of these days. - Will ('92 512TR with 84K miles and climbing steadily)
Adam, amazing how you have upgraded your 512TR ! And descrribed and documented it all ! I am sure many, many F members have read it all, several times ! I myself took all your idea's and started making my own plan (and planning). Especially your colouring-ideas caught my eyes.... and I adapted this idea ! It took a lot of effort but now.... it's ready ! You can take pride of your work: now your idea is visible in Holland, Europe as well ! In near future I will start a site for the Testarossa Family (www.512TR.nl); when ready, plese help to unite / get-together lots of 512TR members ! Gr From Mel in NL.
