Is there supposed to be some sort of black decal on the outside windshield to black-out the ugly glued on mirror base as seen through the windshild? My car came with a previous owner's PPI and in that inspection it stated that there was a decal missing. If so, can it be made or bought? This is on my 328.

In Italy you are allowed to drive without the rear view mirror provided that you have both driver and passenger external mirrors. As a matter of fact, this is the situation most trucks, busses atc are in. Anyway, in 4 years no policeman complained about it... :D (picture from 2006).

My '75 308/GT4 had a sticker applied on the outside of the windshield where the RV mirror attached. It matched the outline of the mirror attachment point, with rounded corners. It had suffered badly in the weather - it looked like some kind of black coating on white adhesive paper. One day my RV mirror fell into my lap, so I bought one of those RV Mirror glue kits at the parts store. I scraped off the outside sticker so I could check for adhesion when I glued the mirror back on. The reason for the sticker was immediately apparent - the attachment point was an ugly piece of work. The sticker was there to obscure the ugliness. I masked off the area and gave it a couple of coats of rattle can flat black. Its still doing the job - must be 20 years now.
