i have meant to track this down for a while now...at this past lime rock vintage fest there was a very original looking gto running well. and it was driven by a very attractive, blond, 40-ish lady. any knowledge on this?

You can search another thread about this- the car is 3647 GT and the driver is Sandra McNeil.

    I think she's a bit older than 40, no?

Yes, but she will be very happy if we leave that alone. If I recall correctly, she and her husband Jim bought the car in the early 1970's for something like $2,700. It died on the way home and they had to call Sandy's father to help them tow it back. I guess dad was not too happy with wild expenditure of bucks and it was a long ride home. I assume that he probably came around. They race it regularly.

I agree. I was just saying

I've watched her race at the vintage fest at lime rock a few times and she's an amazing driver. I remember 2 or 3 years ago she (in the GTO) was having an amazing battle with a Aston DB5. It was incredible and when she pulled into the pits everyone applauded her. It was amazing. She was really driving this piss out of the car. Good for her. I was hoping to talk to her this year but i couldn't find her whenever i came across their tent. I was just in awe

Jim bought the car in the 60's. He was not married at the time. He married sandy 12 plus years ago

And the GTO cost between 6 or $7000. He had another Ferrari at the time, which he had bought used on Norther Blvd in Queens for $5000. For those not from NYC Northern Blvd is a large and long street with tons of dodgy used car lots, and some new dealers as well. Finding a 1950's Ferrari for sale there says so much about how these cars were viewed back then.

My understanding is that he is #2 longest-term owner (purchased 3647 in 1968), longest in US. Longest overall being 3851, Italy, 1965.

Jim told me he paid $8,500 and drove the car on the street for several years. Ralph Lauren used his car for reference when his GTO was restored.

The McNeils also have--or at least had, as I don't know if it's still with them--a 289 Cobra that Sandy used to drive the wheels off of at vintage races.
