Here's one that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. Fit a Ferrari Engine and gearbox and re stage "Grand Prix"

    I think its wonderful.

Yes, Jim .... But it looks almost heavy enough to be the '67 F1 Honda ! ;)

Not a bad idea............except that there are so many one-make series, and pressure on calendars and budgets and sponsors.

Tom Wheatcroft tried something similar with a front-engined one-make series (it flopped), and a company called ERA has been trying to get a series going for cars vaguely resembling 1965 F1s, without much success.

But I hope they change that hideous nose shape on the F1-67..............it is so upturned that it will develop horredous lift, like the F2 and F3 Coopers of 1965-66. They could do worse than copy the shape of the Eagle-Weslake............

Take it to your favorite track, fire it up, set off and think about what Joan said to Bob:

"get you down to the harbor now
Most of the sour grapes are gone from the bough
Ghosts of Johanna will visit you there
And the winds of the old days will blow through your hair"

So they are..........I was so appalled by the shape that I didn't read the whole site. I hope they don't just stick a 'beak' on the nosecone they've made....

It really looks nothing like a 1966-7 F1, apart from the McLaren-Ford Formula Libre car:

    http://fotos.iher.net/66limonest%20Zweifel%20Mclaren%20M2A.jpg

I think they should step back, and then re-do the nose like this:

The problem I have with this replica is that it has been made so strong, and thus heavy. While I understand they do not want their car to fall apart, etc. how can this car really replicate a 67' F1 weighing 3 times as much. Might as well drive a saloon car.

Pointless IMO. There are plenty of old F1 or F5000 cars for sale, just buy one. We hardly need to waste more resources making more (uninteresting as no history and no performance, etc.) ... so a shed is no longer empty.

I have to tell you - this thing doesn't tug at my heart strings, it absolutely claws and rips them to shreds. I simply can't think of a more interesting type of car to "reproduce"

    I love it.

there's a video of mario andretti's bio (champions, i believe) and him putterinng around in his old f1 car around the winery. i'd od the same. bring a friend, blat around napa and sonoma. discover the meaning of life as you reread steinbeck or lecarre, calvados in hand.

then ship it off to the adriatic coast of italy, work your way north and finally park yourself in a quiet little chateau in switzerland if their police haven't murdered you for thinking of entering the country with such a vehicle. reflect on the wonders of life.

I see you gent's points, but don't understand why.

You can only play by yourself. It's not eligible to anything. Playing by yourself becomes boring rather quickly.

I do agree with a good book and a Calvados though, and ripping through some Italian roads, but I think you'd have more fun in another car.

The suggestion of buying a period race-car of a lesser series leaves lots of options.

In any case, this is not a Ferrari replica or re-creation, so maybe it ought to have its' own thread in the racing section?

    It was discussed before.

At least they created something original, wether beautiful or uggly is in the eye of the beholder. Design-wise it has a lot of flaws, the wheelbase being the most important to me.

Asking price is a joke. What nice original machinery can be had for that money?
