I hope the PPI works out because that is beautiful.
Thanks guys! I also really hope everything turns out to be ok. As I said, given the chance to spec a new one, I'd basically make it identical. It isn't always easy to find the "perfect" second hand car in terms of spec...we came pretty close here. *fingers crossed*
Btw...look at how much better the 599 looks with the exhaust area painted (IMO) --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH8WcpRNRK8&NR=1
I totally agree. I'm having this done on mine as well and probably the centre of the diffuser in CF. BTW: car looks fantastic. Hope the PPI will turn out good.
Very nice! The whole diffuser (including the exhaust area) is one piece. A CF one would be very nice. Do you know where to find it and the price? BTW...I remember now...you're the one that test drove all 3 cars in the line-up and opted for the 599 in the end What spec did you choose in the end? Thanks. I hope so... The car has been regularly serviced and driven well (we're told) so I don't see why it shouldn't. Knock on wood.
Yep. That's me. I ordered the 599 but got an F430 F1 to play with now and shorten the wait . The F430 is a blast to drive. Pure fun. As far as the spec on the 599 is concerned: I'm going to the One to One Atelier at the factory end of March. I have something in mind which involves Bianco Avus, black rims, lots of CF and a mix of CF, leather and alcantara for the interior. So, can't comment on the price of the CF diffuser yet. I'll keep you posted.
Just noticed that the car did the 20K km service in Sept. 07...so it should have done the next service in Sept 08 but looking at the guarantee book it looks like it didn't ...need to phone the seller (who doesn't seem to be very easy to reach at times) We don't want to go to Germany just to find out that the car is a POS. S#!t I'm nervous....
Get a grip, F car ownership is not a religion. The car will not fall apart just because it may be late on a service. The car doesn't need to be serviced but every 24K anyway.
Carlo- It is not surprising someone selling a car would not do the last service on it after putting it up for sale. Just subtract that from the price when negotiating if it has not been done. Five or six months late on a 599 service will not hurt the car. Nice thing is, with chains instead of belts, service on a 599 should be much less than on the 575M you were considering. Beautiful car, by the way. I like red and tan and love those Challange wheels. Taz Terry Phillips
We did not go. Plane tickets and a lot of time were wasted. Things were worse than they seemed. Ultimately there were a number of things that simply added up and made us loose all the confidence in buying the car: 1) The car was advertised for 29K kilometers (and the price negotiated accordingly). 2/3 days ago he (the owner's "best friend" who's selling the car on his behalf) sent us a pic of the dashboard showing 35K kilometers. We were left disappointed but decided to go ahead anyway. Yesterday morning he phoned telling us that the car might actually have a few thousand more. 2) The car is 4 moths late for a service and has BEEN DRIVEN a few thousand KM past its timely service deadline. The seller tried to say that perhaps...maybe...possibly the car was serviced but they forgot to update the guarantee book! WTF?! Are you serious!? 3) The seller (the owner's "best friend") always had a hard time reaching the owner and actually hasn't seen the car in months...and he has never been very convincing in his description of how perfect the car really is. 4) We asked the seller to prepare the final contract as well as get a recommendation letter from his bank (like my father did from his) but he never did either of those things. 5) We asked him to get the Certificate of European Conformity (or something like that) which can take a few days to get and is needed to register a car in Monaco. Again, he didn't do it and said that he would send it to us by mail "later". 6) The seller only replied to a 1/3 of the emails and the only thing he truly did was booking us a hotel... 7) Yesterday my father phoned him telling him our motivations for not coming and he tells him in a very disappointed tone (understandably) that the car is now there and the he had a local garage do a PPI. What!? We were supposed to go to Ferrari Wurzburg to do the PPI and we were supposed to go together!! I'm sorry but this whole thing just doesn't sound right. Ultimately we had a feeling that we were trying much harder to buy the car than he was trying to sell it to us. We even faxed him the bank drafts so he could check them...but what did he do? I'm not sure to what extent it was the seller's fault as apparently he often had a hard time getting in touch with the owner (his friend). Furthermore there was the language barrier as his English was very poor and our German non-existent. At the end of the day all these things (and probably a few other I forgot to mention) added up to a point of no return. We are by no means prepared to spend so much money with so many doubts. Things simply didn't add up. Needless to say that I'm absolutely gutted I thought that today was going to be one of those days I'd remember for all my life... We'll have to see where to go from here. Go hunting for another another one? Maybe...I don't know. This experience left us truly demoralized. So much time, energy, hopes and dreams wasted. At this point we are tempted to consider ordering a new one. If one is to spend so much money you might as well put an extra effort and get the car how you really want it. With the current economic climate I'm sure that waiting lists are fairly reasonable. We'll see. My father is going away for business trip next week so we'll have to take a look at the various options later. Regards, Carlo
It seems to me that this is a recurring theme with you. So close and something always happens to make it fall through. Hummm............The tale also seems to get more involved and dramatic each time.
Carlo, Bummer. Just pick-up the pieces and start looking for another one (closer to home so language won't be an obstacle). There are plenty of second hand 599's around. But, if you want to buy second hand be prepared that the car won't be as you would have ordered it new (= spec not 100% as you want it and it will not look new). I don't know you personally but from reading your posts you seem to be a perfectionist (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that). If so ... my advise is to order new. Wipes out all the doubt of what happened with the car before you owned it, ... . Don't blame you for not buying the German car if the confidence wasn't there anymore. Happy hunting and keep us posted on your decision. PS: I see you are from Milano. Was there two weeks ago and saw a nice 599 for sale (Argento Nürburgring). Cheers, M
Here are some of the documents of the car we were sent (as you can see the guarantee is missing the service)...I blacked out the owner's name for a matter of respect: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Our wasted flights (my father was to go on Thursday and I had to come Friday to Frankfurt for the return trip once we were sure that the deal was closed. I couldn't come with my father due to my studies): Btw...my return dates were chosen randomly as the ticket was cheaper with a return flight for some reason... Carlo I'd have to question the validity of the seller!, I would always steer clear of somebody who is claiming to be selling something of high value on behalf of another unless it's a recognised dealer. Then when details start changing and arrangements you make ie. PPI etc I would suspect a con, ie no actual Car, if you had have gone there I suspect there would have been a reason why the Car wasn't there but you should pay and their shipper will deliver it to you Had i have known I passed Wurzburg at the Weekend and could have checked it out for you I suspect you have just avoided paying a lot of money for nothing and you should see it as a positive experience
Carlo, I'm sorry to learn of your bad experience, but like Mark said, look at it in a positive light - it could be much worse. I do hope you find the right car, and soon. Do you have a higher resolution version of that second image...? Could you e-mail it to me...? [email protected]
Yes Mark...things started getting a little awkward. Perhaps we should have seen it before but we were determined to get the car. Things could have taken a nasty turn. Maybe later I'll post some more documents/pictures or even some excerpts of email conversations so that you get a better picture. Here is the original add from mobile.de (that got taken off today for some reason): As you can see the car was advertised for 29000km...later we were sent a pic which showed 35K km (I'll post it later)...and yesterday we were told there could be more...
