    Formerly US car. 1975 model.

Has anyone had experience doing this? and what were the import duties, etc over and above the normal registration in your home state?

    Thanks. John

what make of car? It is over 25 years old and was originaly a US car so it won't need and "federalization". Depending on country of origin it shouldn't be more than a couple of percent of the value . If it was built in the US or Canada or Mexico it should be free.

You should only have to pay the duty rate on Italian made goods.

I'll answer my own question, perhaps, as I just spoke to TFX in Canada (sanctioned shipper for Ferrari).... he said that I would have to pay duty (approximately 2.71% of the bill of sale value, and about $300-$400 to the customs broker for the paperwork).

    Sound about right?

    Missing anything?

I'm not sure what the broker fee is but that sounds reasonable.

I just used A.N. Deringer to bring a 1971 Alfa into the U.S. They were great to deal with. My contact was Bill in the Champlain, NY office.

I was going to use TFX if my deal at the time went through. The car I was looking at was also originally a US car imported into Canada. The way I was quoted was Import Duty = 2.5% of the Bill of Sale, plus a Customs entry fee and brokers fee including the transport/dropoff at my door.

The deal didn't go through so I can't comment any further.
