It's an Anderson quick disconnect plug for the jump start battery. They come in different amp ratings. I think Challenge cars use 175Amp type. Available at electronic shops for about $10 if I recall correctly. Also used in 360 and 430 Challenge cars.

No male or female distinction. Both halves are the same. If you go buy one from electronics shop make sure you get the red one. They are color coded so only same color plugs go together.

Can a current 355 be converted to a Challenge car these days? I mean are parts like the roll cage and other required parts available somewhere? I plan to track my 355 in 2009 in as many events as possible (TWS & MSR) but, it's a street car.

    Ciao,

if you buy one of those chargers for the big red plug...be sure your master battery cutoff is turned on, or else it will fry the system

Thanks for the info... can you clarify that? You mean turn power "off" before connecting it? then turn master cut off back "on"( to energize system?)

I don't think there is a complete challenge conversion kit lying around anywhere on the planet. The bits are getting harder to find, but they turn up from time to time here, on Ebay, FML etc. And there are a lot of bit's required for the full conversion, it's more than a roll cage, brakes, wheels and seats. It would be MUCH easier, faster and probably cheaper to buy a 2nd hand challenge car.

I think he is referring to the ceramic resistor wired to the master cut-off switch. It protects the the alternator when you are using a jump start batter via the quick disconnect plug. The problem is the resistor sees power when ever the power is applied to the quick disconnect. So if you try to charge the battery via the connector the resistor will see power through it during the charge cycle. It then overheats and burns up.

Basically you are only suppose to connect a jump start battery to the quick disconnect for a very short period of time.
