All the California Black plates with yellow letters are engraved with 1963 regardless of when they were issued (1963-1969). The number/letter series was sequential, starting with AAA 001 in 1963 and ending with ZZZ 999 in 1969. Each December a sticker was issued for the following year to apply to the plate to prove current registration. If Peter Helm bought the car in 1961-62 he would have been issued the previous series 1956 Base California plates with a yellow background and black letters engraved 1956 with either a 1961 or 1962 sticker applied. Since you have a photo of Helm with the car wearing the OTY 631 plates, you could reasonalbly assume that he owned the car in 1965-1966 as that's when those plates were issued.
Ok, it is now clear-cut and I understand all this. Peter Helm doesn't remember the years he owned 0117S,I could tell him now ,he owned the Car in 1965-66 due to these plate OTY 631. I have now ,two possibility : - Richard Podolor bought the car in 1966 to P.Helm - between P. Helm (1966) and Podolor (registration 1968) there is an another owner ? Thank you very much T308 for all these detailed information. Next pictures will send you in september-october when the cover-passenger will be realized .
The detaillled list of 0117S owners appears to be available here: http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z12929/Ferrari_Type_195_Inter.aspx That site also lists the race results and all the books that mention 0117S.
Thank you ,Christian ! Yes,the restoration continue ,I have bought recently a 195 engine for 0117S . It is the 083S engine entirely rebuilt by Piet Roelofs (Holland) this engine has ran with Franco Cornacchia 1st al giro della Calabria and placed at the coppa inter europa in 1951...other race, I don't know ? I have the chassis frame,an engine of time and a body placed in 1956 : is my car correct now ??? The engine has not his gear box and I ask the Ferrari Community to help me to find a 166/195/or a 212 gear box,in accordance with my 083S engine. My all alloy cover passenger is now finished , he look very nice, I post you in a few day pics of 0117S ,if the weather permit me. The exhaust are also rectify, they are now in a correct place. Yes Christian, the restoration progress.....Remember the first pics of 0117S post by Mr Massini in his thread "this week a barn find",two years ago.
Please send me a PM about this, authorizing me to obtain the records listing all of the information, plate, etc. with a representation that you now own the car. The PM should end with the following: "I declare the foregoing is true under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of California" followed by your electronic signature. I think I can get them for you. Art
Thanks, but the great friend of peter Helm who post here like KRASNAVIAN canno't get them by the way Peter Helm don't remember the records listing I wish obtain ! Still ,many thanks.
Art is a well respected attorney on the West Coast of the USA...he can most likely research the State registration records for you.... I'd take him up on the offer! And looking forward to some pictures, congrats on your progress!!! Regards, Alan Leach Houston Texas USA 20405 22127 22641
Art, Good luck on this one. I've tried similar on cars from the 1960s with no joy from California DMV. The earliest I've been able to secure any info on was 1985.
Oh ,yes we have tried by many ways ,but in California there is no archives ,records before 1976.(not existing)
If they have those records, I suspect I can get them. The California statute allows attorneys to get whatever they've got. We just have to sign a certification saying what the request is for. Art
My 083S engine will be put on 0117S. About 083S ,I have found this race results : -04/061950 Coppa della Toscana Cornacchia/Del carlo 195S N° 1217 2nd -16/07/1950 Coppa d'oro delle Dolomite Cornacchia 195S N°142 3nd -06/08/1950 Giro della Calabria Cornacchia/Del carlo 195S 2nd -10/03/1951 Coppa d'oro della sicilia 5th -15/04/1951 Coppa inter europa 195 inter N° 104 Raced -19/03/1952 Buenos aires race N°33 (?) Please anyone can comfirm this ? I have read on the "Making a difference " of M.Massini : "First owner of 0117S WI.PU.CO (Cornacchia)???? for Salvatore Ammendola". I don't understand.
Martteen, WI.PU.CO Srl. was a Ferrari dealer in Milan(former AICAR = Agenzia Internazionale Commercio Auto Ricambi). Also sold thru them s/n 0105 S, 0109 S,0113 S,0121 S to name a few... regards Ivo
Thank you Ivo, in fact if I understand Cornacchia (WI.PU.CO) has sold to Ammendola his 0117S ? right ?
Martteen, I read it as 'Franco Cornacchia as racing driver/pilote for owner Ammendola'- but that's just an amateur's guess and I stand ready to be corrected. Thanks for the great thread and congrats on 0117S. Best, Dave
I have confirmation, corroboration that these six race results are attributed to 083S. 083S will fitted 0117S !
I beleive that Cornacchia was a racer, team owner/manager, and car dealer, and used several corporate names, including, if I recall correctly, Scuderia Guastalla. I hope this is helpful, and not merely muddying the waters. I'm just going from memory, and someone with access to old records no doubt will clarify.
Yes, Ed, all you remember is perfectly exact, accurate. But,I have myself make a confusion ,a mistake with Cornacchia racer and team owner/manager of the Scuderia Guastalla who run with several 195 S (026M and 060M) and the only sure race results in 083S were il giro della Calabria 1950,la coppa inter europa 1951 (where 0117S and 083S Track together with number bonnet 104 and 108) ; and also the Buenos aires race in 1952 N°33. I have my car monday or thuesday and I post here some pics.
The no33 comes from #071S when raced at the Autodromo Buenos Aires race with Menditeguy on March 9th 1952
