No yet Brian. Al should have everything reday by next tuesday. On wednesday it will be having a full paint correction and valet done to it which will take 3 days. I then pick it up the following sunday. Only 8 days to go!!!
Full paint correction?? How does Al feel about some guy correcting his work? It looked like a first class job to me.
That 348 is looking absolutely awesome. I do have one thought/concern though... What exactly is involved in a full paint correction? I thought paint corrections were only for cars with old/damaged paintwork? Surely it's just going to be re-doing what was already done? What possible improvement can be made on a car that's just had a complete bare-metal-up respray? All the best, Andrew.
Hi all, firstly, can I say a massive thanks to everyone for commenting on the work, it is very much appreciated though a bit embarrassing really (I just try to do the best job I can without ripping anyone off - and am incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work on some very, very lovely cars. I don't do this job for the money, I love doing what I do & truly look forward to going to work every single day. As I say, I am an extremely lucky guy). With the paint correction - I was always very sceptical about detailers & their ability to 'work wonders'. I have tried a few guys & wasn't hugely impressed with the results, certainly not to the point of thinking that they could add much more to my final job. But I had heard great reviews of Dave & Ian at Sportscar Protection & we have a number of clients in common. They came down to the workshop to finish & detail a Strad I had done the front end on in September/October. Having seen them work & having been able to compare their results 1st hand with another car (an Escort Cosworth) I had paid a fair amount of money out to have detailed by a local firm, I can say that their results are quite sensational. When a car leaves me it is pretty much as good as I can get it, but I have always been aware that there are machine polishing marks in the lacquer that I have never been able to remove (& this is true of EVERY bodyshop - whether they care to admit it or not). Their patience & attention to detail is absolutely in sync with how I like to do things & all I can say is that their work adds an unprecedented level or dimension to what I do. Thanks again all, best wishes, Al.
Thanks for explaining that Al. Great job. Though i would warn Sy about the use of communal house hold T-cut on the finished paint
Day 43 Al says.... "All glass fitted. Luggage lid flatted down, machine polished, fitted & aligned. Also door trims built up." Just the rear engine grill to go. Angelis, you might double check when you pick your car up, but it looks like when they put the steering wheel back on, they put it on the wrong side. ???
Yes its just you. Its a bit of British humour between Sy and myself Just the same way Husker was having a little humour as well
Day 44 Al says.... "Rear grille & bonnet scoop painted." Special thanks to James at www.eurospares.co.uk for getting me the 348 Tyre Pressure door sticker. The bonnet scoop is from a 355. I used to hate cleaning the original 348 plastic grill. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Day 46 (There's no day 45 - messed up somewhere along the thread ) Front spoiler, bonnet vent and rear grille fitted. Looks like it's all finished apart from a couple of minor bits (see next post). The 348's looking great. Glad I went with the gloss black in the end. I pick up Rocky this coming sunday and then due to slight change of plan, Dave will be coming the following friday to do the final polishing. As is always the case, there's usually a problem that crops up at the end. Seems my 48 rear view mirror doesn't fit the new windscreen. I've been looking for a new 348 mirror and "fortunatly" couldn't get hold of a new one. The existing one had broken in the past and someone had glued it back together. I never noticed it myself, but Al picked up on it. Hence the search for a replacement. Good thing i didn't get one as I would ahve wasted my money. Ferrari no longer do the 348 mirror. The new windscreen has a circular mount as seen in the picture below which doesn't fit the 348 mirror. Martin Lewis (parts manager at Dick Lovett) has confirmed it is a 355 fixing and has ordered a new 355 mirror which he should recieve tomorrow. (Yes... another 355 part on my 348 ) Big thanks to to Martin for his invaluable help during the respray saga. Looks awesome man. You have to be amped and ready to receive her back into your hands - you better give her a little "Enthusiastic" drive once she warms up just to make sure she knows you still love her MB
Day 47 Al says....... "Interior built up. (Still needs a damn good clean on Saturday though!) Loads of odds & ends done - front grille fitted, rear 'screen finishers prepped, painted & fitted, badges, stickers etc. Still some loose ends to tie up & final flat & polish, but nearly there now."
