Hi, whle I don't live in Utah I could transfer there in the future. Do you guys have smog checks on cars? If you do would there be an advantage to a 1973 vs a 1975 year car? Thanks, here in a
Alaska the cut off is 1974. Prior to 74 no checks etc. For 75 and after they need to be checked, but we have as seasonal waiver where you can't drive the car from 1 November thru 31 March if the car does not pass.

I don't know about the rest of Utah, but in Logan they don't do smog or emissions.

    More detailed info at: http://dmv.utah.gov/registerinspections.html

So, emissions would depend on where it's registered in Utah but inspections are required every year for cars older than 8 years. I've got a second home in Summit County, Park City specifically, so I assume I'm emissions exempt but need yearly inspection.

I've considered moving a car there, my 1989 Ferrari 328 so no emissions testing but inspections needed, correct? What, exactly is involved in the inspections and should I be concerned at all with this old of a car?

Does anyone know how registration fees compare to California as well?

Honestly I would just call Steve Harris Imports... they will be able to fill you in on the details. They have many clients in the Park City area and I am sure would be able to give you the info you seek.

Or you may get lucky and Sean will post here... he does that from time to time.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like those four counties are not very "car friendly". How big of an area is Utah, Davis, Salt Lake, and Weber counties?
also what are the safety checks like?

Those counties are along the Wasatch front and are the more/most populated counties in the state. Safety inspections depend on where you go. I took my stripped out rally cross car to get inspected and at on place they told me they wouldn't even look at it. The second place I went to told me to tighten up a loose fender and cover some exposed wiring, I did that and it passed.
