Good driving for us impecunious guys though - and good for the Bunnings run. I wonder if anyone makes a towbar...
I tell you what mate, I bet if he sold now for $100K, the person who bought it could re-sell it down the track for $100K WITH a blown transmission. A new transmission is apparently $20K from Ferrari. That is still only a $120K 456, still a good buy IMO.
It's been done before. Way back in the dark ages when I was a young fella I used to go motorbike riding with a gentleman who at one stage had a 4 seater Ferrari fitted with a tow bar. He used to tow his bikes around with it to all sorts of bush locations. Apparently he asked the dealer to fit the tow bar and they refused so he did it himself. I was about 14 at the time and he was in his 60's and could ride dirt bikes way better than I could. He also took me for my first ride in a Ferrari- a 365BB down the eastern freeway. I remember it hitting the old 100mph mark by the time it got down an entry ramp and onto the freeway proper. I was hooked on Ferraris for life after that ride.
That is a very collectible car, series 2 with 5 speed, they made about 30 in RHD. The ultimate 1960's 2+2 Ferrari. A much better car than the 365GT that followed it and of course the unfortunate 365/400/412 series. Retrim and cosmetic tidy up, it will be easily $200K in the next market upswing. Drive it for 5 years and still double your money.
Thanks for the input. Youve confirmed pretty much what I was thinking. Definitely a car I could enjoy and economics one could justify long term. I think its the best looking of that line and especially the lights areas. Some great original colours too.
Can't afford a Lambo, get the next best thing... http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/TOYOTA/CELICA/details.aspx?R=6758556&Make=TOYOTA&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&Model=CELICA&__N=4294962861+80+713+1622+4294962171+1216+834+285+257&State=New%20South%20Wales&distance=25&silo=1003&seot=0&Cr=0&__Nne=20&trecs=2&state_id=80&__sid=115D966B871D Only $25,000 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
At least with those seat covers you wouldn't notice when you'd thrown up all over them... My guess is he's a Financial Adviser
Trick would be to make a low-ball offer for it, then do as much of the work as possible yourself. Or you could buy the fully restored MK 1 that Classic Throttle Shop have for less than $100K. Less desirable car but zero to spend. Goober or I can connect you with the previous (Adelaide) owner of the MK II, if you want to know exactly what it needs.
Warney's ex-355 Spider is getting cheaper and cheaper! Its $135K now, somebody make an offer!! Preferrably someone who lives in Melb so they can take it to Chapel St for a latte. http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/FERRARI/F355/Victoria/csn6693347.aspx
nice meeting you yesterday Greg, oh and speedy and Scaramouche Mark and PP insisted on talking about cars
The price has come down over $20K in the last few weeks. I am sure a deal could be had with that one. As long as the PPI and condition is good etc..etc..
Cheap(?) 360 Modena: http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!unique_content.enquiry?vehicle_id=6744798 Even looks great with that colour.
Aha, and so #7679 re-surfaces.... A few pics from the DB of Carl. The first pic shows the original owner, Mr. Joffe with the car in South Africa in 1966. The other pics I took when I inspected the car in 2005. I'm curious to know why you think it's better than the 365 GT 2+2 Ian. The 365 GT had the independent rear end with self levelling, power steering and air con as standard. Didn't you have one? There are no 330's in Australia that had air conditioning fitted ex factory in Australia....I think that's pretty much mandatory these days. Also, the 365/400/412 series are really good to drive, sadly, most are not set up that well after suffering from years of neglect and deferred maintenance. A good one is a great drive. I can tell you, that if that 330 pictured is in the same condition as when I saw it, you could throw at least $150,000 at that car without any problem at all. It was not a bad car at all, just that it needed the proverbial... Regards, Carl. Yeah, looks cool in that colour. Those wheels are not too nice though IMO. $180K is a good start. I wonder if it can be had for $160K. That would be a NICE buy then!!
