the best beer

two words " Lone Star" yeeeha!

 

Just tried a [little] bottle of the blue chimay. I couldn't finish it. It was just far too heavy for me and really not my kind of beer. I got half way though and realized i'm just trying to finish it and i really don't want to. It had a very strong taste, almost reminded me of hard alcohol (which i can't take) so i'm drinking a Victory Golden Monkey right now instead. Probably a boddingtons or lowenbrau after that

Duvel is my new favorite. Its a little on the pricey side though but its ohhh so good

 

Also my favorite as well. I have it on tap right now and a spare keg waiting. It is now available in 6 packs too.

 

Had a sip of a 23oz bottle i had last night. Couldn't drink it. Poured it down the drain this morning. Did not like it at all

 

I used to drink a lot of Mac & Jacks when I visited the Pacific Northwest (and before that, Ballard Bitter), but since Manny's Pale Ale from Georgetown Brewing came out, I've switched. Manny's is destined to take over the world. Is it available outside Seattle?

Other favorites:

Pilsner Urquell with some weisswurst or smoked brats with good mustard
Sapporo Black Beer at the Brewery with some Genghis Kahn
Duvel with a big bowl of mussels in an appropriately robust sauce
Beer Lao with some of those great Lao sandwiches, ideally sitting beside the Mekong
Bia Hoi Hanoi on a street corner with a huge pile of those little egg rolls. Sit in the sun and drink 'til you're crocked for a buck.
Almost any English bitter in any pub in semi-rural UK- beer drinker's heaven. Don't bother with the food though, drink your fill and wander down the street to the nearest takeout for a good Vindaloo.

Guess it is appropriate that my 500th post is about beer since the only thread I've started with any legs is about beer (shameless plug: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143194). My tongue is not too sophisticated so I either "like it" or "don't like it" with little explanation and very few have fallen into the latter group. I don't have a favorite but I do recall one of the Chimay brews as being very tasty, just can't recall which one it was.

If you want to get really exotic, find yourself some vintage Thomas Hardy's Ale. It's a borderline barely wine, similar to Sam Adams Triple Bock, but not as syrupy and it's still carbonated (so it's still a beer IMHO).

I have a few old bottles in my wine cellar - they re-started production of this classic recently IIRC.

 

Not a Double chocolate stout fan, but I do enjoy Oatmeal Stout.

 

Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse is my current favorite. Freaken awesome, nice banana after taste. I also drink Corona because it doesn't give me a hangover.

 

I couldn't imagine not having at least a headache from any mexican style beer. If I have 4 Dos Equois my head starts to hurt.

 

Kentucky Bourbon Ale is good / different ,beer aged in bourbon barrels, very tasty (if you like bourbon)

 

Interestingly, this happens to me if I drink Yuengling. I had a few buds over recently, all of us complained of headaches the next day.

I am allergic to hops, but this was more of a hangover kind of headache. Since I only had 3 or 4, I know I wasn't hungover - really weird.

Congenerics can do this, but I didn't realize beer had much of that.

 

Bud light does give me a headache too. If I'm drinking that sort of beer, or plan on drinking in excess I stick with Miller Light.

 

I dunno, everyone is different, but I never get a hang over from drinking Corona. I can usually even mix a bit, usually a shot of Cuervo or two, and still be in pretty good shape the next day.

 

My "Best Beer" tastes have changed over the years in about the following order:

Becks, Pilsner Urquell, Watney's Red Barrel, Smith's Oatmeal Stout, Pyramid Espresso Stout, Full Sail Amber Ale, and Full Sail IPA, to name a few.

But I now only consider two beers extraordinary:

Full Sail Brewing's "Old Boardhead" Barleywine Ale (2007 vintage)

&

North Coast Brewing's "Old Rasputin" Russian Imperial Stout

 

Can't handle tequila myself. I always wake up with a headache.

I've yet to see the espresso stout, I'll have to look out for it.

 

I enjoy Negra Modelo so I tried their Modelo Especial (not-dark) and really enjoyed it....

Went great with the tacos and hot sauce!

 

Unfortunately, Pyramid discontinued their Espresso Stout probably a decade ago.

Not to worry, the Old Rasputin is an order of magnitude more interesting.

Beware: do not let your wife / girlfriend drink either Old Rasputin or Old Boardhead as they will sprout hair on their chest.

 

I love Old Rasputin

 

For sure, tequila is not for everyone. These days, I can't even smell Jack Daniels, much less drink it (we had an argument once, he won, now the thought of drinking it makes me sick), and Jagermiester leaves me with a bad hangover.

 

I'll give those a try. And will not let my lady friend have one.
