I like the idea actually, i could even see it doing well with the right drivers of course. Could this be another chance if Raikkonen were to get the shove from Ferrari. I think they would have to proove themselves first, before Kimi were to even think about going to the US. P.S. Is the team just going to be called USF1?
No Joke! and I do agree with you. But the difference with Carlton is his work ethic's and intelligence. It can be very possible because really besides Scott Speed, I dont see anyone other US driver out there that can do the job. Carlton is still very young so it would be very easy to groom him, but he would have to start now for him to have shot next year.

He can play Sylvester Stallone's part. PS I think Speedy did fine; however we can measure his speed against Luizzi who he was comparable with. When Vettle stepped on board we saw how good AL was; Adios Luizzi. With the Cossie as a fixed cost engine, reduced testing, and a trend towards Spec equipment this may be a good time to get the feet wet. I have to believe Bernie would fund a major portion of the team just to fill the grid. He's not a fan of Peter Windsor however. Basing in Charlotte would be a mistake with all the resources available in England. Lets not be stupid. Perhaps a Corporate headquarters just for the foto ops.
I think he might. He was a decent F1 driver and was steadily improving. I think that he could definitely make the cut among American drivers for the seat and has a marketable name. I'm sure he could drag in a little Red Bull money too.
Massa as well as a few other current F1 drivers are American, although they are all from countries in South America, rather than from the USA in North America...
Obviously not, or you misinterpreted. I said, take any competent driver and put him in good equipment, he can win. I made no implication that any of the drivers YOU mentioned were losing sleep or worried about losing their jobs. Fact is fact - Irvine, Massa, et al - mid packers until they got into the Ferrari - then they became competitive. We'll never know if Speed would win in a Ferrari as it's PURELY HYPOTHETICAL...but it's probable he would do well.
my mistake. I understand what you are getting at, my comment was specifically targeted at the idea that a current American 'trained' and 'experienced' driver would struggle in F1. If the new US team wants to win, they at the very least would need to employ a European trained driver. The reasons for that are many, but the difference in talent is very telling at that level. As to the technical talent, the Brits dominate the F1 industry, even amongst many of the non-uk based teams. This is due to their 'cottage' based industrial base, which has evolved into hundreds of small, highly specialised companies who focus on F1 engineering. To ignore this during the team formation would be a heavy liability.
I used to agree with you, until I spent a couple years in aviation mechanic school in Miami. If somebody was calling for me, they'd just say "Hey, Americano!" Oh yeah, a USF1 team would be a great idea, but all I can find of it is a page that says "USF1." Assuming this turns out to be more than vaporware, I thought Scott got hosed for being truthful, and I'd love to see him back in F1 with a car that actually worked for the whole race, which STR didn't figure out how to do until after they flushed him.
No worries - we're all a bit passionate about F1 I suppose I do agree about the Brit comment. Many of my colleagues are Brits (one went to McLaren BTW) - it's one major reason I think any team thinking of getting into F1 should look at Honda (a British based team).
There are Yoongs and karthekeyians in F1 because they can bring money/sponsors to poorer teams. The teams with a virtual zero chance to win are normally low budget teams (minardi for instance, had an annual 50 million budged, opposed to 'the big 3' almost 500 million), and they waste very little of their own money and they are almost completely funded by sponsors (which paydrivers bring). Guys like Paul Stoddard who love racing keep running these teams. Some teams get bought (jordan) and and are being run for a period of time in the hope of some success and then get sold for more, so its more like an investment. What is a truck race? one of those Baja type things where those plastic bodied trucks race on a big offroad/motocross like track? Totally different ballgame. ARCA is still oval racing, which to me is more the art of being to concentrate for long periods than being an epic racer. Its 2 corners too the left normally. Hardly a challenge... While I agree that EI, FM and RB weren't anything special, they had to be 'trained' further to become race winners. Yes FM an EI could practically have been champions if the team didnt make those monumental F- ups... I'm not debating speed anymore since i wasn't aware of his illness. But you're not going to tell me that Yoongs (who was solely responsible of removing the 107% qualifying rule, mind you) and Yuji Ide's of this world are going to be even remotely succesful in F1.
It strikes me that anyone who purchases the Honda team and it's assets will make the deal of the (F1) century. You could buy it at pennies on the dollar...but you will still need to employ all the Brits you can...!! I sure hope Button gets back to F1...this time in a good car.

One of the figures reportedly central to a prospective US based Formula One team has confirmed the intention of 'USF1' to contest the 2010 world championship. Ken Anderson, an American engineer involved with NASCAR and IndyCar and also a F1 technical director of the 80s, told the Charlotte Observer that 95 percent of the unofficial information carried by websites in recent days was correct. In collaboration with British broadcaster and writer Peter Windsor, also a former F1 team manager, Anderson said they are scouting possible headquarters in North Carolina, and that a formal announcement of the team is due later in February. Anderson also said USF1 is close to signing its first driver for 2010, hinting that he is an American who is currently racing in a junior open-wheeler series in Europe. "All of the teams' sponsors want a presence here and American companies are going global," he said. He said a US-based team, despite every other F1 outfit being headquartered in Europe, is possible because "90 percent of the technology that exists in F1 comes from the US anyway."
Unfortunately, the realism is that with 2 sometmes only one week between races in Europe, there needs to be a Euro base as well. The technology can be based here, but FOCA flights al fly out of European bases to the mid/far East, a US team would be responsible to have their gear at those points of departure. Personnel wise, there are a lot of disposed Euro mechanics and engineers currently in the US, many yanks are very capable and are in employment in europe currently.
