Seems like the clowns in Sacramento are just about to get the budget passed through. What's this mean? How about another $.01 in sales tax,(LA will now be 9.75%) higher gas tax,(apparently $.12 per gallon) double the vehicle registration fees and higher personal income tax along with all the other cuts. We already pay some of the highest State and City taxes anywhere in the country. With a population the size of California and everyone already paying the highest State taxes and they still can't make it work? There's a serious spending problem that goes way beyond trying to screw you and I. Hopefully this will bring on law suits that will force these dipshlt politicians to rethink tax increases. Arnie you're useless!

Any news on the proposed personal income tax rates ? sorry to hear this

Vehicle license fees would nearly double, going from the current rate of 0.65% to 1.15% of the value of a car or truck. The sales tax would increase by 1 cent, raising the rate in Los Angeles County to 9.75%. Gasoline taxes would increase by 12 cents a gallon. And residents would pay a new surcharge on personal income taxes, amounting to 2.5% to 5% of their total tax bills, depending on how much federal money California gets.

These Scumbag Politicians (Legislators) have to go. Constantly increasing the Budget, they are unbelievable, I guess America and California as it exists is a something of the past. In 10 years they have doubled the employees and the Budget. Wasn't the car tax a reason we got rid of Gray Davis? I wish we could get rid of all these A-Holes in Sacramento.

any idea what they mean by a 'surchage on personal income tax'? surely they aren't proposing raising the tax rates by 2.5 to 5%, that would top out at almost 15% ?

The terms "surcharge" and "temporary" tax are used to soften the blow. They try to make you think it's only for a short while but we all know that once these taxes are put into place they get used to the revenue stream and won't let it go easily. FYI the Mello Roos tax that some cities like Irvine charge were only supposed to be a temporary tax but have now become long term.

20% of the people supporting 80% of the people just doesn't work anymore. The camel is tired. The straw is heavy.

Lots of news on tax increases being talked about in this state. We are one of the highest taxed states in our Union and it looks to be getting worse. The state government and most of its players should be tossed.

How much will we take before it is enough?

This is realy dumb, the Government is handing out the Stimulus checks, and at the same time they're collecting the money back by more taxes. So, how then is this stimulus thing going to work???? $IN + $OUT = $0

Correction Scott: ALL of them are equally worthless.

I'm still bummed McLintock didn't get elected. I laughed at Arnie's "I'll be tough" speeches during the recall. Tom was the only one that stood his ground on reform. Arnie flip-flopped, got elected, then totally caved to the unions and then some.

Sad, very sad. They think they'll raise the money needed for this never ending debacle, but they'll lose more than they gain as everyone leaves the state in what would be the largest droves in the state's history.

I'm so disappointed that this bull**** isn't getting more media coverage. Everyone seems to be drinking the Kool Aide of the quote/unquote Federal stimulous package and nobody is questioning the Federal govt let alone what these idiots in Sacramento are doing.

How exactly do we propose to tax our way out of a deficit? What economic theory does that follow?

Rise up folks... make your voices heard.

The gov't is handing Stimulus checks to people who do not even pay taxes. Then they will tax those of us who earn over $250K a year, more to pay for it. It really does not give me any incentive to work harder. Once I reach the point where the gov't is taking half my paycheck it is time to stop working more.

When I lived in Cali I was paying 50% tax (39.5 fed and 10.6 state), without even factoring in sales taxes, property taxes, etc. Every morning when I got up to go to work, I couldn't get it out of my head that every hour of every day, from January 1st to June 30th, was simply to pay the government. I wasn't making a dime for myself until July 1st; and in reality it was probably more like August once you figure out all the other taxes.

How to kill your state without a foreign invasion. Not only have they hit the bottom of the ocean, but they've started to dig.

Every last damn one of them under the Capitol dome.

Exactly, and as long as the voters say this side is good and that side is bad it will never be fixed.

They all need to be thrown out. We could walk down the street picking unknown people at random to replace them and be far better off.

Ahnold is now doing exactly what Gray Davis did, except he kicked the can down the road a few years and incurred a few billions more in debt along the way. Too bad he isn't strong enough without steroids to get his cajones back out of Maria's purse. The whole thing is disgusting. We are rewarding failure once again.
