and this country will be screwed up for many years to come :( I am truly gobsmacked at how quickly this country went from a surplus to an enormous debt, it must be some kind of a record!! It is a very sad day :(

Would someone like to explain to me how going into a huge amount of debt that we have no idea of how to pay back is any different from the loans given to homeowners in the US who also had no idea of how they were going to pay the debt back? How does replicating the very same thing that started this crisis solve anything? I am no accountant, but simple logic tells me this was an extremely short-sighted vision by a party that is more interested in getting votes than looking after the country's best interest. Look for an election to be called between September and the end of the year :(

The propaganda machine will just say "it;s the debt that we needed to have" and it was our only option because of the 'world economic financial crisis'.
Thing is the people who voted for him will be the same people who will swallow his cu...rubbish!

Simple... It's how Socialists run a country. Debt controls the people, hidden under the guise of standing for the workingman. I work, you work, everybody works. If you own your business and you cock up YOU pay for the mistake, if your employee makes a mistake YOU pay for it, when the government makes a mistake we ALL pay for it, for years to come. They personally are not held responsible for it. Krudd spent enough time living in China and Taiwan to get some good ideas.
I voss just hobeying horeders mein Furher they will say, I know nussink.

Don't cast your net so wide.
Two years from now, try and get someone to admit they vote for this lot, because they will bear some of the responsibility for the state of things.

And strangely enough I still haven't come across anyone who admits voting for this moron :( And I am talking people from all walks of life!

You'll love this then - was watching Parliament (tragic, I know) and noted that the Minister for Climate Change and Water, Penny Wong, is not only starting to dress exactly like Krudd, she is even picking up his mannerisms!! It was hilarious to watch!!

The rest, sadly, was like watching a train wreck.

Anyone half competent could've won that election. Same as The States.
No-one was game to tell Howard how on the nose he was with the electorate, despite getting a couple of free passes while labour got its ducks clean and lined up.
The Lib's can't expect a Mark Latham every election.
Wake up guys, Howard lost his own seat!
    Costello had no gumption.
They were on the nose and the folk who should know better were asleep at the switch.
Yet you guys want to blame the judges for the fight's outcome.

Same way B&B went from being a billion dollar darling to fish wrapper overnight; much of the surplus wasn't real (in the way that if you keep money in the bank but haven't paid your bills, then you don't really have any savings) and the piper has to be paid now...

I agree spending money seems madness, but no one has any other idea what to do - refer every other country and economist in the world. The mess IS going to get worse regardless, but the gov't has to be seen to be doing something. They're playing the violins on the Titanic because at least people will hear some music in the minutes before they drown... Turnbull's only suggestion is to repackage the numbers as tax revisions and the repercussions of that are even more long term.
