Hi everyone, I just found this site from someone who is here and on the Maserati forum. This one seems much more active!

I have a 1967 Quattroporte that I am considering parting with. It is a restoration project, but the car is a 100% complete, original car. Inside and out. And the engine is NOT frozen. I am not certain that I will have the funds to complete the restoration so that is why I am considering selling it. But it MUST go to someone who will restore it. I will not let it be parted out.

So I am trying to gauge interest in this car. Comments???

Thoughts of making a pilgrimage to Lexington briefly flashed through my mind.

I'm pretty shure that you've forgotten more about these cars than I know.

I'm gonna call you later today or tomorrow mitchell.

I was just posing the question to this forum, how much interest in this particular model is there as compared to others, I wasn't asking if anyone here was interested in buying per se. Granted, that would be a bonus to the question I posed............... I was after educated opinions.

And yes, I get the economy! :-(((
    talk soon,

I hope you can keep that car and bring it back to its original glory! We have a gal that brings her Maserati 3500GT to our Italian Concours every year. She inherited the car from her Grandfather. SHE LOVES it, and loves taking it to all the car shows. She won 1st place for Maserati - Classic at our show last year.

Trust me Mike, I WISH I could keep it. I have agonized over this for months. It is going to come down to the funds to restore it. I could keep it in my garage in its present state forever. I could restore it bit by bit, but it would take me forever. I have another very expensive hobby, that of horses. I love that shot you sent BTW! Yes, that should be me.

I live about 3 miles from Maserati Club International. They have millions of dollars of new parts for the older GT cars. I know Diane has bought lots of stuff from them to keep her 3500 up to par. Not sure if you know about MCI, here is the their website. They've been around since 1976:

    Hi Mitchell,

It IS in "good" shape! Check out over on the vintage maserati Forum. I guy wrote to tell me that people are PRESERVING these old cars instead of RESTORING. Big difference. Estetically and dollar wise. Could be a way to go for me. Very interesting info. It's got me thinking!

Yes, pictures are not the best for judging condition of cars. However, I think there are some people on this board much more qualified than me who can say if it is possible (and realistic) to keep it original/ preserved. They may have a better sense of what that entails too.

Besides, I think there is now a preservation class at the Pebble Beach Concours. Actually they have two, for pre and post war cars. http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net/pages/3907/index.htm

And that Ferrari I mentioned before is being discussed here as well.

Well, I would certainly welcome opinions on preserving my car as opposed to a full-on restoration..... (it goes without saying that mechanically it needs to be made functional and safe). Are my photos good enough Johnei?

"Preserving" a car can cost a lot of money as well. If the car has been kept in good running condition it's a much better candidate for this. Also, if you're doing the work yourself it can mean a big savings in dollars but not time. If you're paying someone to do the work then expect big bills. This car looks to me like a potentially decent target for a restoration which for this model in this market is going to be way upside down. You might start out on a "preservation" pathe and end up on more of a "restoration" one for even higher expense. I know of someone who took another Italian exotic in probably much better condition than this car and paid a qualified specialist over $20K just to get it barely running for a potential sale. He lost money on the deal and shouldn't have. If you're OK with those sorts of bills and really want to keep the car then go for it. You have to have passion and determination for these sorts of projects. It really helps in overcoming the irrational realities of such an undertaking. Otherwise, take Mitchell's advice and don't spend more than $500 prepping it for sale. A really good detailing will help (fool) a lot.

    Bob S.
