Yes Andrew J told me the car is now with another enthusiast! If he hadn't taken it, I had someone lined up...

Please feel free to send the picture. It was sent to me by a fellow GTO owner and in fact neither of us know who credit should go to (unknown).

    Cheers

    Joe

Mark forgot to mention there are at least 2 other portraits of 53307 and its illustrious former owner on this thread earlier...

It belonged to Dr Ehard Peter who was riding in it with his wife at the time of the incident.

    It is 53321.

Marcel has posted images of it in what looks like a repair/restoration facility but I don't know if its been brought back to life yet.

This Evo is in Kobe, Japan with long-term Ferrari collector Yoshikuni Okamoto. Its the same one featured in the May 1987 edition of Sport Auto magazine wearing test plates PROVA MO.1247. My understanding is that this particular GTO has the milder F114CR engine (530hp) and it was used in the development of the F40. Ex-Pierre Bardinon, it looks to remain in unmodified form. The ultimate Ferrari Supercar track weapon.

Joe do you keep a 'table of contents' page somewhere for this GTO thread? Or is it just all in your head??

    The company 70167 keeps...

FWIW, purely from my own research, there are nagging suggestions that 70167 was built out of 288 GTO 50253 (which in turn was re-manufactured from the ill-fated 44421?? Marcel?).

GTO Evoluziones are simply referred to as such, dropping the "288" moniker...

79888 deserves special mention because this GTO Evoluzione has the more potent F114CK engine unit installed, reputedly good for 650 hp at 7800rpm, pushing along just 940kg (2,072 lbs).

I remember from that article picture, the look on his face as he was leaving his burning car.

I hope it comes back to life !

Indeed. He needs a bigger truck to accommodate the 333SP and Formula One cars besides...

Here is 79888 during its tenure with Garage Francorchamps (Jacques Swaters), registered "30451"

Who designed the Evo's bodywork? Was it an in house job?

IMO, if ever PF justified their worth to Ferrari, it's in the evolution of the Evo to the F40!

    Furman:

From what I understand, the GTO Evoluzione project was under the guidance of Ferrari GM Giovanni Razelli (yes, him who was also the guiding light for the F40). He sought the collaboration of Michelotto for the car's function-over-form final disposition. Paolo Materazzi was Ferrari's assigned engineer. I agree with you that Pinninfarina took the blunt & brutal Evo and evolved it into the more stylized F40.

If you look at these images of the Evo, its all comp-car business. No form of subtlety or fair accommodation. Only the tools required for speed.

Or more likely he is holding his head in disbelief at the news that he'll have to stand by his car till 3 in the afternoon to find out if he has won a trophy!

Speaking of trophies... a 288 GTO piston mounted on Schedoni leather, just the thing for keeping those invoices in place.
