I saw a 348 fog light on ebay today for (first bid) $800. A bargain and a fair offer from one of the guys. As a poor person, I'm thinking mine are too valuable to leave on the car. Maybe gonna put them in the safe deposit box and replace them with some brake cooling ducts. Worried however that the brake ducts may suck up birds and squirrels and the occasional small dog. My question is....If a squirrel is ducted onto the braking surface, will the abs compensate for the squishy substance left on the rotor? How long will it take for any meat deposited on the caliper to properly cook?

Why hasn't someone taken there lights sent them to china and have made knockoffs yet? I think you have a better chance of having the stimulus package help you than you do finding replacement fog lights . Ever time I take my car out I shudder at the sight of a large car or truck in front of me kicking up road debris...Yikes I might as well buy a 355 at least theres parts for them!!

That's why it pays to be out in front. :) Seriously though I just put mine back in after driving for a year with them out. I don't really use them anyways. I'm going to stop by the metal supply shop and pick up some expanded metal and play with it. I'll see if I can make something look good in there place. I could have a metal jig made up to press the expanded metal to shape.

I know that on other cars foglights crack a lot because of their relatively high temp when used, and if cold water/rain is splashed onto the lens they crack. Maybe just don't turn the damn things on? Hope this helps.

My mechanic told me he heard that someone in France is making the lens - he has to dig more into it. If someone finally did - will be a relief.

As soon as I hear its confirmed, will pass on the info.

Please. Someone needs look into how to do this if someone doesn't come up with something, and I know absolutely zero about plastic/glass lenses...

... we did. Our fellow 348 brother Mike Seals (in Kuwait) spent a lot of time and energy working on this project. I sent him some foglamps about 12 months ago for evaluation. He is well versed in the optics and lighting requirements for this type of application. Based on his initial estimates, the project was shelved.

It's really so simple: but some X-PEL or any type of ballistic plastic on your lamps. No worries. If something can break through that stuff, you'll have bigger problems than the lamp anyway ;)

Just bought a set of those 40 mil thick sheets.

21 USD total cost to Sweden

Might even get them on before the gear box gets in again.

    Thanks for the link.

How thick? I like this idea. Did you use rivnuts to secure it?

Glad it worked, just follow the instruction to a "T" and use heat to help the process. I used my heat gun and you can't tell that they are protected from about 4-5 feet away.

PAP, I have it on my car. They are basically invisible. Unless of course you go all "French" like mine. :) I got the amber ones, and love 'em.

(You can bet I sure as hell ain't spending $1500 to fix a cracked lamp!)

0.1" acrylic, it allows the sheet to bend to fit the profile of the bumper. The brand I purchased claims it is 20x stronger than glass. I also placed the laminex product on my fog lamps and on the acrylic cover. It is secured to the bumper with pop rivets. Anything tough enough to take out my covers will be taking out my entire bumper.

Took me a second, then I was like HEY THAT'S VIR. Then I realized whose car it is...that looks like a protection job similar to 3forty8's isn't it? Those yellow shields are not the 40mm thick right on the glass ones are they?

    Yes, VIR.

Mine is ballistic stuff like X-PEL. It is adhered directly to the glass. There are no rivets or anything like that. Imagine a VERY VERY strong condom, and you'll get the idea.
