It sounds like Brett is really getting busy with 18767. I just wish I could pick a color! Hey Brett any thoughts on the 4.8L engine? I'm sure Brett will show us some of his and Mike's handy work!

Jim's project has started a little earlier than expected because a slot opened at our painter. all the emblems, most of trim, bumpers, rad and fans, lights and exhaust have since been removed, as have the inner door panels and seats. we will not be removing either the front or rear glass and the door handles will only come off at the last moment.

lots of progress on Jim's 365...his tranny, block, and heads have been disassembled, cleaned and inspected. the tranny was in good shape, with great syncros so just the basics are needed parts wise, but the main shaft locking ring nut wasn't tight and was surely why the PO had an issue with the car jumping out of second and into neutral. the block is getting new piston rings, main and rod bearings, thrust washers and rod bushings, while the heads are in for new SS valves both intake and exhaust, guides and seals and springs.

with his rebuilt carbs, distributors set up, free flow exhaust...and super fast new shade of silver, she's really gonna kick booty...

    Brett,

Use caution on SS valves. The SS exhaust valves on my 330 have been in for around 15K miles and now are being replaced due to bad cupping.

    Regards,

    Brett,

I'll see if I can find you a picture. The tops of the valve stems were not sufficiently hard and the rockers wore the tops of the valves.

    Regards,

    Art S.

Jim's tranny is done...we'll be assembling his motor side by side with David's 400i motor starting next Monday.

we 'have' to take a break as Mike's girlfriend is being induced tomorrow...she's a week late today...so he'll be at home with her for a few days.

maybe everyone can think a positive thought for Mike and Holly over the next day or two...thanks.

All best wishes to Mike and especially Holly for a safe and quick birth! If the inducement doesn't work, maybe Holly can wheel a few transmissions on their dollies around the shop!

Hey Jim...ofcourse, with apologies...the new baby is drastically cutting into my computer time...nevertheless, i really should keep these current.
enjoy the pics...road testing will begin next week, as the tranny, torque tube with new hanger bearing and CV shafts are back in.

Have you ever thought about ceramic coating the headers, and/or installing a heat shield between the underside of the webbers and the headers. I put a stainless steel heat shied on my Testarossa to isolate the muffler heat from my cold air intakes. Very effective in both cost and performance improvement....Cool Webbers are "Happy Webbers!"......Mark. ps.....I wish the cams on my Red Head were "Chain Driven".

Brett can confirm the coating but I believe they are ceramic coated. We went with a darker color than the bright silver. Heat shields would also probably be a good idea. That will be one of many future projects. I think I will always have small projects to do on this car! Brett and company took care of the big stuff!
