Hi Rob, enjoy..... you ought to drive to Taos and/or Santa Fe and try either one out.

We will ski Taos next trip. Picked Angel Fire because neither Jennie and I are great skiers although we hope to get better. Also considering the flying as I'm only a 200 hr. pilot and want to take it one step at a time heading out there in the mountains. :D

Had a great time at Angel Fire! The Angel Fire FCA chapter couldn't make it out, but I got together with the Lamborghini club for breakfast and then Duesenberg club for lunch. :D;):D

That's a real nice ski area, IMO...as you say a little more low key but some good runs, I was lost on the mountain in the fog once and skied like never before!

    Upside down, backwards........

You cannot do that, where it's crowded! :D

Eagle Nest Lake or surrounding streams? Guess they do a bunch of ice fishing on Eagle Nest Lake. Besides the Rainbows I heard there is some type of Salmon, that really surprised me. I love to trout fish and have done plenty of ice fishing, but for Walleye and White Bass. I might have just found my new favorite place.

Yep there...and also Monte Verde Lake is okay too. The lakes are stocked pretty heavily with rainbows and browns also.... I have heard they also stock silver salmon up there but I've never caught any. My dad fishes up there all the time in the summer so I'll ask him about it.

Rob- The Cimarron River drains Angel Fire and has great tailwater trout fishing, especially the private stretch below the dam called the "Holy Water". February might be a little early, though, unless you are a real diehard. Dipping your rod (fly rod, that is) in the water every 90 seconds to clear the ice from the guides gets old pretty fast. Plus, as you can imagine, it is all nymph (yucko) fishing using a bobber (sorry, strike indicator), so double yucko. Great fun just before run-off starts and in the summer and fall. The huge Boy Scouts camp is on the Cimarron.
