Hi, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a body shop. It's time to repaint my 246 Dino. I live in LA

    Thanks

I would suggest also posting this question in the California forum, perhaps with the title "Looking for a good body shop/paint job in the LA area". I'm sure that will get you results.

    Lots of questions arise.

    How good is the body?

Bare metal or just a sand and re-spray?

    Willing to ship the car?

Maybe if you post some pix and some details about what kind of job you're looking for, it'll help narrow down possibilities.

You can spend $3K or $50K, and anywhere in between.

Jim Selevan and OMGJON will know the answer to this. They are in the area and are Dino pros....

Thanks for the kind words, Tom. Yes, there are many qualified body/paint shops in Southern California. It's all about establishing the right relationship. Most can do good work if they care for the client. If they see the client as a p.i.a., then they will rush through it. The well known shops will charge top dollar. There are many smaller, niche shops that do excellent work for far less...especially in this economy.

Don't settle for less, go to Steve Beckman, owner of Beckman metalworks in Costa Mesa. His work stands for itself, from Pebble Beach to a daily driver, he is in a class by himself.

For repairs to your Dino you should consider FAI in Costa Mesa. Rod Drew and co have done many many Dinos, from routine repairs, to one car that won the concourse Italiano at Pebble Beach after an FAI restoration. FAI :949-631-6373

Christiano has it right with regards to Beckman. He is considered the best around. His work is truly amazing, albeit top dollar, which seems somehow consistent: You get what you pay for.

Thank you so much guys, I'm feeling much better now that I have some recommendations. By the way just out of curiousity what would steve beckman charge for a bare metal paint or sand and respray? I've gotten a quote of 7k from my own body shop to do a bare metal paint but for some reason having him do it makes me a little nervous.

    Many Thanks,

at $7k you will not get concourse work unless the guy happens to be an artist but just does not know he is. james is right about the multiplier...spend the money and do it correctly. you will be glad you did!

If you posted this thread in the SoCal Section, the overwhelming response (and my recommendation too) would be Dave Freed at Premier Motorsport. All they paint is Ferrari/Maserati. Do a search is SoCal and you'll see all the great reviews.

I don't think Premier will do a Dino, they only work on later models.

I only use Specialty Car Craft as my body shop. They're on La Cienega in Los Angeles. They work on all types of exotics and do custom work as well. I believe they have done restorations too. Talk to Steve, 310-838-5551.
