Take the car out last night for a late night trot and as I was driving a few juveniles threw a rock at my car while I was driving! I am not joking, it hit the passenger side door and spidered the paint.
Of all the things, haven't had the car out in 4-5 weeks and just my luck.

Unfortunately for one the kids, I am in pretty good shape and was able to chase one of them down. I wont give too much details of how that went but lets just say that I am 190lbs
the kid was 16 years old about 130lbs. Get the cops out there and they call the parents down, I guess that parent called the other boys parents and all of a sudden the other culprit arrives and is detained by the police.

The parents agreed to pay for damages but I am a little concerned as my black 1995 355 is original paint and in amazing condition. I have talked to a body shop this morning and they are telling me that repainting just the door is going to be noticeable to the other paint as it is 13 years old. Black apparently is not a easy color to try to match. I am now also concerned to the
devaluation of the car after doing paint work, as the car has not had paint work done to it.

Any suggestions or knowledge on the valuation issues would be much appreciated.

    Sounds like it is totalled;)

I would be present when the adjuster reviews the vehicle along w/ a couple other folks that can lend credibility. Your battle will be with their insuance company I suspect, in the end. Get ready to spend some money - to make it right as this will lead to court w/ multiple parties.

I don't think having it resprayed will hurt the value of the car as long as there is no body damage to the door. How many of use have had hoods, bumpers, and fenders resprayed because of rock chips or bottoming out going into driveways. Just make the shop you use is top notch. If I were you I'd look for the best Ferrari restorer were you live and make him do it the way it needs to be done and inform the kids parents the cost, and if they don't pay the entire bill you'll press charges against them. It'll cost them more in lawyer fees then to give you the money to fix the car. I admire your restraint if it were me the papers would have read Ferrari owner kills kids.

Make the other parties insurance company make the check payable to you and not the repair shop. You then pay cash at a place of your choosing and no Carfax report will show up...

No respect from the younger generations these days.

I couldn't imagine doing that to a car of your caliber when I was 16...I would be in awe of it, not throwing rocks at it....the only thing that might have happened would have been getting drool on it...

I admire your restraint and good on you for catching the buggers. I agree - make the parents pay out of pocket for a professional repaint of the door so as to match (a good shop will be able to do this); anything less than their complete cooperation to make you whole, inform them you will press charges and litigate for damages.

    Hi Romanos,

    my two pennis:

The better and cheaper solution is to paint the door and polishing the whole car after that. Try to find a good detailer in your area and if the car has never been polished, it will look like a brand new one, even better.

Sorry for what happened, here those kind of actions were also in fashion several years ago.

Throwing rocks at your car is an intentional act. I doubt if the kids' parents' insurance company will pay anything in that intentional acts are usually excluded in policies.

Thngs may be different in your state but in Indiana no insurance company (except one's own carrier under comprehensive coverage) will pay. There may be a statute that makes the parents liable for intentional acts of their kids but in Indiana the liability is capped.

I'm pretty sure here in Cali parents can be held responsible for their childrens' criminal acts, surely they can scrape up $1000-$2000 to avoid court.

+1! Our American future! LOL. Ranked 64th among Industrialized Nations in math and science test scores. "They" worry more about using the phrase "one nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance and using red-colored pens to grade papers (i.e., it's far too aggressive/assertive), than having the students actually learn. Sorry, I'll go rant in the P&R Section now.

I am sure you are just kidding. But, in Indiana (I don't know anything about California) parents of children who have not reached their majority are liable for intentional acts of their minor child up to a certain dollar amount. I don't know the current dollar amount but I believe at one time it was $3k. It may be more now.

Me too. I know some punk in my area keyed my M3 two years ago, and I am spreading the word openly that if I ever see anyone damaging any of my cars, immediately dial 911 and call for an ambulance because I swear on my fathers grave I will beat the living sh$t out of them until they are crying for thier mommy.

Someone should be able to do just the door and get it to look right. Black unfortunately is a difficult color to match but just have them do it until they get it right, and tell the parents that if they don't want to flip the bill you will see them in court.

Take LOTS OF PICTURES and document all conversations and meetings.
