Didn't manage to blow the boxer cobwebs away this weekend despite good weather due to a number of factors but getting the 365 out of the garage made me think about the colour change I gave it 2yrs ago and wondering whether I should have done it. Have I sinned? My Ferrari specialist thought so. Other than the colour change the car is totally original.

Im assuming you painted it resale red from turd brown. If thats the case no you didnt sin, you could have picked black or blue but picking toilet bowl swirl brown would have been a mistake regardless of originality. If you went from red to brown that was a booboo.

Hey John, a great looking Boxer on both shots. It's a bit difficult to see the old colour in the shadow - was it Maronne?

As for the moral question - well, personally I would have kept the original colour if it had never been painted before. But if it needed a full repaint anyway there's no real harm done - you can always change it back. My own 365 Boxer was delivered in Dino Blu Metallizzato originally. I really think I will change it back to that colour a couple years down the line (it was resprayed to red in 1988).

But your car looks lovely in the new livery, that has to be said.

    Happy carburetted motoring!

Yes Paul it was dog turd brown when I bought it . Or marrone as the Italians say. Onno's pics are from a few years before. Just couldn't live with the brown - very '70's but brown is brown. Would have stuck with it if it was blue, black, grey etc . The car looks great in resale red but today I had to take the door panel off and on the inside of the door was some of the marrone and it made me think did I do the right thing? But I think I did. Car didn't need paint - just did want the brown.

Anyhow going to get the Boxers out for a blast in the week as weather looks good for next couple of days.

You have sinned my brother...Marrone is gorgeous on a GT...it looks stunning on the Boxer...most classier than the ...I wish mine was that color...I would not repaint mine to a non-original color even though it is common Ferrari red...have it painted back ASAP! I would love to have a 365GTC/4 in Marrone...

I also like the original color of your car. I've never seen a 365 BB in that color before. Red is getting a bit boring. What is most important is what you like. Ribot Blue is a nice color.

That blue is pretty damn -- pretty. I think all the 308/Boxer cars look striking in blue, maybe the best color.

Mine was originally grey repainted red, it was stripped no signs of the grey anywhere. The red looks great it has different shades depending on the light but I like off colored exotics, blues, greens, etc. Brown I would have left but white or yellow isn't the most flattering colors on BBs for some reason.

You KNEW you'd get all sorts of conflicting thoughts on this didn't you??? I really don't like brown, but might've felt the same way about changing it "just because". I've only color changed one car in my life, but your car is at least aesthetically improved from the original.

You see Gullwings and many other cars 'altered' from their original colors, with little to no effect in the market if done well, so don't lose any sleep over it.

On a personal note, Genos blue car makes me moist. I've got two black Fcars, and WISH one was blue. If I ever get that 550, blue's the color.

I'd call it a wash - You rid it of the doggie-loaf brown.........and changed it to the stereotypical red.

I think the brown, particularly with the black boxer bottom, looks fantastic. You mean you took that and made yet another red Boxer? I would have gone the opposite direction.

That colour is great on a 365GTC/4 but I can see why you didn't like it on your Boxer.
I love the silver blues on a boxer and would've gone there before I'd add another boxer to the red and black sill cult.

Am starting to really dislike the trend to paint every car he ever made resale red.
It'll only stop when we put beauty before dollars and have faith that buyers are likely to be educated instead of reliant on conservative financially based advice on their choices.

Still I can easily understand why you thought of that as the safe choice and its easy to criticise another's actions. So please don't take this personally.
I feel that if one truly loves the individual car one makes the decision on purely aesthetic grounds and disregards the perceived resale red financial wisdom. If you can't do that you're destructive of the heritage and shouldn't con yourself otherwise.
Its harsh but its true. Ask tomorrows kid who'll only ever see red cars when he looks to see what Boxers or other earlier Fezzas were.

I do agree with the sentiment that too many Ferraris are repainted red. It is a bit boring, and one of the reasons why I'm partial to changing mine back to original blue. But since mine has just been restored (before I bought it), it'll be a couple of years down the line that happens.

I understood that this is Marrone Metallic. If it is the same color, then it is a great color in person. I think there are better colors on the Boxer, but I find it a very classy look. I trust the taste and artistic sensibility of the Italians just a bit more than Newman's, lol!

I looked for a very long time for my Boxer, and was hoping to find non red. Not that red is not beautiful, but I am kind of a contrarian kinda guy. But I found the right car in red and couldn't wait anymore. No regrets, but I sure enjoy some of the other great colors like Geno's!

On the question of sin against originality by changing the color, I see two main camps: never mess with it in any way; it's yours to enjoy in any way you like (some even go so far as to cut/change body parts, drive train, etc.) I don't like to see an owner take a sawzall to body work, but if someone pays the freight, to me they are entitled to do what they want.

I personally don't see the color change issue as a big deal, except that the color won't match the tag on the front wheel well. You can always change it back, or leave it to the next owner someday down the line. Think of it like a beautiful woman who changes her hair from blond to auburn. If it is done with good taste, I'd be proud to have her on my arm regardless of the color!

More I look at it the more I like it.

Has a slightly reliable, conservative overtone to its presentation.

Looks like its driver could be the reliable type, rather than the tear around in a red sportscar hair on fire impression.

    Thats an illusion.

As fancy as the italian name is for turd brown its still brown. I couldnt live with the colour, I would have gone with the blue rather than red but thats my preference. I often wish my car wasnt red but its not too hard to live with :)

    Sure Paul.
We'd agree that a red boxer beats an empty space hands down. ;)
Quite like all the blues and silver more than this factory colour.

Have to ask though, are you eating right?
If thats what you're seeing its maybe time to add a few veggies to the pot.

Sure its an illusion too. Any impression gained from a guys car is, other than attitude to maintenance maybe.
However there's a few suits and conservative casual clothes that original schema would fit right in with, despite not matching your taste.

We talk glibly of a colour change as if a full respray was as simple as writing a 5K cheque. Suspect that once its red it'll stay red until requiring general cosmetic renovation when the colour might change again.

I prefer the uncommon colors; green, white, blue..........even brown.......a car is only original once.
