137 MPH and no Ferrari

I heard yesterday that the NYSP guys pulled over a guy on Rt 84 for doing 137MPH. Tagged him on radar and I think his but is cooked. It just goes to show you that you don't need an exotic to run triple figures. He was driving a 1993 Honda Civic. HAHAHA and I wonder what his gas milage was.

 

I saw this on another board - was the thing modded? Can't see a Civic (unless it's an SI) getting up to that speed...

I don't know NY law, but in NJ, that level of speed means license revocation!!!

 

The sad thing about today's youth is that most would *rather have* the Honda than a Ferrari.

 

Let them have their Hondas or whatever and leave the Ferraris etc... to those who would appreciate them.

 

some dude in Phoenix got pinched for doing 146 in a stock Hyundai (I think a Sonata?), so maybe a stock Civic could manage 137

 

If I drove one of them I'd want my trips to be as brief as possible too

 

How do you get pulled over?

 

it was a 93 civic...no word on if it was stock or not...but i guy i work with knows the kid and his lawyer is playing the "the car can't even go that fast" card. So time will tell i guess

 

I once owned a 1993 honda civic, completely stock and I could hit 125, it took awhile, but I did it. So if that civic is modified with a larger motor, like a motor from an integra or s2000. Then the car could easily hit that speed.

 

Big difference between 125 and 137. The drag is multiplied by speed.

 

Sounds like total BS to me. What stock Hyudai can do that? It's a trivial thing to go 146mph.

With some minor mods I dont think it would have a problem getting up that high....i drive a 08' mazdaspeed 3 with some minor mods tune/tbe/intake/bpv etc. and it can easily get to that speed.....however I have half a brain and I'm 22 so I stay away from speeds like that...i like my life.....in Nj i believe if you get caught driving +100mph you can potentially be charged with attempted manslaughter on top of any tickets or license revocation.

 

my 2001 BMW 330Ci wont, it shuts down at 138......it seems like it wants to, but the computer says hell no!!!!!

a halfway decent tune/chip/ecu reflash can take care of that for you....

Sorry I had to chime in here, I know my Speeds and you sir dont just have minor mods . TBE and tune alone will get you past the stock top speed of 155 mph. Fortunatley, your smart enough to not go out and try it..

 

kudos to that driver. i don't care that it was a honda civic i'm glad there's someone out there willing to drive their car fast. hope he has a good lawyer and can get the fine reduced or thrown out, I had a friend who was able to beat it.

i hit 135 in my bone stock Acura RSX type s and it scared the PISS out of me.
