F40 rear air fence?

I'm wondering about the comment on the flap's sharp edges (capable of a 'nice' cut) - does this really enhance the effect of the device so much that they're desired so sharp?

 

I think looking at F1 cars there are aero bits on the car that are rounded and other bits that are sharp. Both must have specific purposes. I believe that rounded edges would enable a smooth air flow while the sharp edges would modify the flow and prevent vortices from occurring in the boundary layer close to the body.

Yes. It's amazing how a very small difference has a measurable effect. It's very interesting to see that Michelotto even designed these fences differently side to side. Note how the right side fence has a forward facing thin return at the top edge whereas the left one doesn't. The reason the Fence on the SUV is more rounded and moulded in is pedestrian safety. It would work better if it had sharper edges. The 8C's fence has sharp edges but it's on the underside of the car and peloton's Porsche's fence is made from a pedestrian safe material.

Watch this video of P 4/5 in the wind tunnel. We're trying to optimise front brake cooling and minimise front wheel well vortices and turbulence. Note how between runs we're fine tuning the edge of the wheel well fit with a file to adjust the flow.
Very small modifications made a surprisingly large difference.

And maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that F1 was on a completely different level as far as high tech and precision goes...

I am reliably informed that were popularized after their 1937 debut as manufactured for the fighting men & women in the army and the navy, and remained popular in the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90,s and heck, are still popular. Therefore, you are wrong in suggesting they belong in the 80s. But I was also wrong for believing you... see, I understand the concept of being wrong sometimes. In fact, Im wrong a lot.

I have posted evidence of RB Aviators popularity throughout the decades, and I have posted them slowly so that you will not miss any of them. You may recognize some of the people wearing them. The first one is of some General guy. Thank goodness I now have all this information, in the nick of time too as I was about to dispose of them!

pretty impressive the amount of downforce this "useless" device creates. interesting also that the engineers had to install a mechanism that would reach full extention quicker than originally designed as the car outaccelerated the needed downforce with the original configuration.
