It's worth stating that Quail not only offers a great car show, but it also offers all the great food you can eat, and all the alcohol you can drink, included in the price. I've been to $200-a-plate functions whose menus pale in comparison, so $350 does not seem out of line, cost-wise. But I'd second that if it were $500 a ticket, given that it's Monterey, they'd probably still sell out.

I understand that Shows cost a butt load of $$$ to put on. Specifically in the Monterey area. I am sure that if I actually had the $ I would more than likely pay it just based on the information you guys have given me. I have never been to Quail and would love to attend it someday. I just don't see why they raise the price from year to year. I do understand that the cost do go up, sponsors come & go so there is a pretty much only 1 area to get the $ that is being lost elsewhere. If that is from the Spectator that wants to pay $350 and he is willing to pay it, then so be it. But if someone doesn't want to pay $500 and those that are willing post it everywhere for the organizers to see, then I can almost guarantee that by 2010 it will be.

On a side note - C.I. was more for those that didn't want to pay those extremely high costs just to attend. They sure screwed that up. I was willing to pay the $100 back in 2004 just because of the venue and because the opportunity is not always there to see my favorite Marque. But when they moved it to "THE TARMAC" they lost a lot of interest from all sides (Spectator, Participant, Vendor, ETC.). If they hadn't screwed it up so horribly bad, then we all wouldn't be talking about how bad the event has become.

OH I almost forgot. CHOPTOP!!! I just attended the G.G. event in November. I hadn't been in a couple years. I still love to see Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Rat Rods (my favorite) and really cool trucks. I just need to be more open minded about the whole carshow scene. I went to almost every G.G event for the 10 years prior to stopping. $65 for 2 days to enter your car is a very cheap price when you get to bring in 1 guest. At $16.25 per person per day plus having your ride in the show is rather cheap. Do they still offer a 2 day spectator pass? If they did, they would probably have a lot more people show up. If I had 2 days to go through a show and swap, I wouldn't always feel like I had to be in a big rush when I do attend.

Couple of reasons for the higher pricing of car show:
    1. Because they can get away with it.
    2. Keep all the elite class together and eliminate the average "Joe the Plummer", LOL

I think the phrase is "Christopher the Plummer", or "Amanda the Plummer."

Someone will be having something at a golf course, but I don't think it will be from the CI people.

Rumor has it that they're moving the CI from the Marina Airport to right around the corner. The Marina Waste Management Center (dump) where they expect to completely eliminate any chance of anybody showing up (for the car show anyway).

Sounds like there will be two Italian shows, a new one on Wednesday and CI on Thursday. Of course with California in the throws of bankruptcy there could be a new Italian car show tax and we end up with nothing!

It would be interesting to have a poll asking were everyone is going. Pebble, Carmel street show, CI, the new Italian event, Quail, Concours d'LeMons, Jet Center or no show.

Called the Quail today because one portion of their web site said tickets would go on sale February 17th, however they told me they are "Sold out", so if you don't already have tickets check this one off your list.

LYNNWOOD, WASHINGTON. (February 20, 2009) - Concorso Italiano, the
Celebration of Italian Style, which opens the traditional
Monterey/Pebble Beach weekend, has transitioned to new ownership. The
ownership group, lead by Tom McDowell, will continue Concorso's rich

    most importantly, Italian automobiles.

The August 14, 2009, event will offer new features in a beautiful
setting, befitting the superb quality of the exotic Italian
automobiles. Now in its 24th year, Concorso Italiano has evolved into
a must-attend convergence of sophistication, taste, and affluence, all
amid the grand setting of California's Monterey Peninsula. For
additional information about the event, to register a vehicle for

According to their website, the "beautiful location" will be the barren wind swept tarmac of last year. Strike that. Looks like yet another owner is necessary until they "get it"...

You would think that with all the complaints about 2008 they would be wanting to move it. Just shows that our opinions don't matter to the new owners.

Sounds like a new owner is in place for CI and I have heard a new location. If they were smart they would be talking with the clubs. It doesn't make sense for the clubs to hold their own event if the new owner wants make things right.

Yea lets face it.........it would be fun to give CI the boot, but what do the clubs really know about running an event on this scale? We could end up with two half baked events rather than one good one.

The clock is ticking it would be nice to know what the clubs and the new owners of CI are thinking.

I think there's more people out there that know something but don't want to spill the beans till someone gives them the go ahead in case it don't go to plan, what do you think about that logic

You are correct, however some of those that claim to know, don't. Only a few people know what has really been transpiring behind the scenes.

Sounds about right, but what a screwed up mess it has become. One of the largest events of the weekend and here we go again.............not knowing any details until the last minute.

I hope CI was purchased by someone who knows what they are doing, so we can get back to having a nice event. I worry about the clubs having a function because clubs seem to have a hard enough time running themselves let alone a large event. The Ferrari guys will want to control everything, the Maserati guys will argue with themselves, Lambo and Pantera clubs will fight over the best spot and the rest will watch and wonder why the food and drinks are so expensive.

Where is Frank Manderano when we need him?
