It's true that I have no idea about your connections and we all would like to hear more about them.

I openly declared my "source" and also openly posted a follow up which discredits my source to some degree and definitely discredits my very own posts. I can live with that.

My belief is to give people the news as fast as possible and if they turn out to be false, also admit that.

Wasn't the first time I believed a false Roger Benoit story. Last time was in regards to a potential buyer of the Honda team. There too I admitted the retraction.

Having said that, don't underestimate Benoit's connections and stories. He was one of the first to break the news about Kimi having signed on with Ferrari when everybody else was in denial and I repeated it on here. I got bashed and ridiculed for it, yet a year later it became fact.

No, I don't know everything about F1, but when I hear a good story from a good source, I'll make sure to present it here. Even at the risk of it being wrong.

Finally my apologies for criticizing you in the post below. Although it still is to me highly doubtful that we will see this US team in 2010 on the grid. But rest assured, that I'd be its biggest fan and would love to see nothing more. It's just - as Tillman said- we have been here before and have been let down before, so the enthusiasm is slightly curbed.

Tell you what: I'll buy you a very fine bottle of red wine if we see the team on the grid next year. Because if we do, the price of a bottle is a small price for the joy of seeing that. Vice versa if there is no US team, I'd expect a bottle coming my way so I can drown my sorrow. Deal?

    DEAL!!!

I must say your words touched me (I am not being sarcastic) I apologize for questioning your sources or getting carried away when I felt you were out of line.

It really did mean a lot to have you say that and I agree with you completely. You did bring the latest information and passed it on as soon as you got it.

I too have had sources go bad on me. Regardless of your course though I know that your gut feeling told you this was too good to be true. I know that feeling.

I know I owe you my sources and I promise when the time is right I will let you know. Things are at an early stage and I will be sure and make it up to you soon.

    Thank you tifosi12

Perfect Andreas! :) I've always appreciated your info...correct or incorrect as it may be. ;)

Like others, I'm skeptical on USF1 happening but if it does I think it has the opportunity to be a big positive for F1.

Glad you like the incorrect as well, because I got a lot more of that. Just wait and see...:)

Indeed, if this would actually happen it would be a tremendous deal and eventually bring back the USGP. As far as I'm concerned the US team can be dead last, as long as there is one. I loved Sauber all its years (as a Swiss) knowing full well they won't be on the podium. No matter.
On a sidenote: I would have bought a Lambo a long time ago, if they had the gutts to participate in F1. I simply refuse to have a car from a manufacturer who doesn't participate in F1. Doesn't matter whether they win or not.

Looking forward to hear more. Aside from the journos I happen to have actual real sources, which I will never mention (so I can understand your predicament). Not trying to grandstand here, it is true and because they are real I will never say more than "a birdie told me". ;)

You could always buy a 1989-1993 model Lambo. It would technically fit your requirements :D

    LOL, right.

For me it is about the continuous racing heritage. Ferrari covered more of F1's history than any other team. Although not all that is (little known fact that only somebody like Is would know :)).

What's the deal with the USF1 website? I still haven't seen it--every time I try it takes forever to load and I give up. Not the best way to introduce yourself to the world when your site barely works.

I think the success of this venture will be in direct relation to the percentaged amount of Windsor's and Anderson's net worth personally invested in it.

Given how much Windsor adores Massa, he might hire him as his #1 driver after Felipe's contract with Ferrari ends.

I would love to see that. ;)

Why? Because Toyota proved that a big budget produces wins?

Its called "hurting money". If they have personally laid it out on the line then it has a good chance of flying.
If its other investors cash; crash and burn.

like it or loath it F1 is European based - everyone else seems to be a ble to understand that, but the people behind this new USF1 initiative want to be based in the US.

all the successful teams pick the best drivers they can get and afaik always have - to decide to only use drivers from your home country seems to be on the one had very stupid and on the other virtually borderline racist (and illegal in many places - not sure about US employment laws)

sorry guys but Jingoism went out the window a loooooooooooooooooooong time ago.

Well, that's the question, isn't it? It's true that the majority of the teams are based in the UK and Toyota and Honda are hurting with their management from Asia. OTOH Renault and Ferrari are doing just fine developing the cars in their home countries.

I'm sure basing your team in the UK would be the easiest way and assure best results, but moving it to the US IMHO is possible: Particularly in a time where the rules are more strict on what you can do. The US has a long tradition in building spec racing chassis and the talent for that is around. So if the approach is to do something like Sauber (which based its operations orginally solely in Switzerland with a big Swiss work force), that would work.

Not racist really and even progressive if they hire a woman. Restricting themselves to US drivers only could be hurtful talentwise, but then again this organization's goal might not be to win the championship, but to participate at a profit (which is what most teams do). And if that is their goal, having US drivers only could be essential to get sponsors. Not a question of chauvinism, but of getting the funds.

It seems that the USF1 people are throwing out random names without having consulted the drivers themselves, hoping to pick up interest and sponsorship when they haven't even gotten on the phone with any of these drivers.
