When I lved in San Antonio, Tx back in the mid 1980s, I would go every so often to Alamo Sportscars on Broadway. Back in the 1950s-70s, they were a dealer for the British and Italian imports. By 80s they sold mostly used cars and new Morgans. They also did repair work for all the older imports. Well, out back under a shed sat an old Maserati, looked something like a 300S. I asked about it and was told it had a chevy engine in it. Anyone know what became of an old Maserati that lived in San Antonio back then?

i for one am obsessed with the 300S wbaeumer (on the forum) is writing a book about them and may know more about this one, i have never heard of this one in SA, (i live in SA half the year) but have heard of one in south texas in a "barn" rotting away... it was common for the cars to be outfitted with "larger/newer" engines over time to make them more useable over time when parts and what not were hard to come by.

very interested in this as I am determined to own a 300S one day

It was #3077 (it originally had a different VIN and was renumbered by the Factory). The car is today fitted with its original engine and resides on the East Coast of the USA.

    Ciao!

....in the famous "Caroussel"-section of the Nürburgring some years ago when I took this photo for MOTORSPORT. This car is -IMO- the most beautiful of all 300S`s!

I believe that ...because you likes the "something-Hommage" what your brother builds on a Mistral-chassid (poor Mistral!). If you like that "hommage" I strongly believe that you also liked Word War II.....!

Thank you for the response Walter. Good to know it has been reunited with the original engine.

I did notice you didn't reply to my response to your last thread on the subject, I think I touched a few nerves, also hope you spell check your book, the chassis! is fine. The replies I have got back have all been positive, bar one, Maserati Police force!!

Not sure what you are implying with the World War Two comment, but I think you are still living back then....

Notes [mine] on the back of the prints "Spencer Martin - Kerry Manolas #3072 RNZAF Wigram 198?"
If someone knew what SM looked like in those days and confirm that would be great.
    Cheers

I also forgot to add from my post over a year ago; when #3077 was under that shed and very dusty, someone had written with their finger on the car "MONSTERATI".
