What a beaut, the interior is fabulous, best lancia ever!

 

These cars are the icon cars of the 80's. Buy one now it will be like buying a 62 Ferrari GTO in the 70's for cheap.

 

No not really, but it was very nice and rare. I like the pre FIAT lancia's better myself. The thought of a FIAT block in a Lancia still makes me cry. The Stratos was the best post FIAT takeover Lancia in my view since it was a
completely new car, not a Beta shell with heavy modifications.

What other 80's cars are out there that look as good as that Lancia that have a race history and are streetable? Ford RS2000 and the Ferrari F40 is the only other cars that comes to my mind.

 

But with a Fiat engine no less.

 

Any Group B rally car from the 1980's, the 959/961 and F40LM, ect.
The only one I see getting as high as the 250 GTO would be the racing F40LM.(maybe, but don't count on anything)

The "FIAT" Dino engine in the Stratos was really a FIAT financed Ferrari
motor. I guess you could say everything was payed for by FIAT after they took over Ferrari. The Dino motor in the Stratos was a limited production unit as you well know, not a high production FIAT 4 cylinder based motor. One note, I do think the Dino motor was somewhat ruined after they went to the steel block on all the production Ferrari and FIAT Dino's.

The chassis on the Stratos was built from scratch, not based on a high production Lancia/FIAT model. They are all still very nice cars.

I love the Stratos as well but they were 1970's cars. For the decade of the 80's these 037's are it.

A turbo Stratos matchbox car I had growing up in the 70's is partially to blame for the rallying addiction I have now. That was the coolest looking car. When I graduated from college and was looking for a collector car and saw a Lancia Scorpion advertised in the local paper I had to go and check it out and then bought it. Love the lines of both the Stratos and 037 and the Montecarlo Gr5 . I modded another Scorpion with the Volumex supercharger and 037 style bodywork.

Owning that 037 in the states may be difficult to register being that its a gray market car. Would make a great track day or show car.

 

Dave I have seen your work and I love what you did with those cars. I am friends with Harland who runs the Alfa club in DC. He also has 3 Lancias.

Doing some research on these cars I had no idea that they made 420 of them. 325 HP out of that motor makes for some fun driving.

Have a neighbor w/ a Fiat Dino coupe. When I first moved in and was in the parking garage we share I recognized the Dino motor's song echoing throughout the garage as he pulled in one evening and got excited waiting to see what would turn the corner as it got to the floor I was on, a Ferrari Dino, Fiat Dino or Stratos.

 

The road version is nice, but they are also selling a rally version.

Any one know what they are worth?

 

Hard to put a current US $ figure on them since there are no other rally versions in US and maybe only one other road version and now prices are falling because of the economy.

Buy either. The local Fiat/Lancia club is very strong w/ lots of fun events (wine tours, shows, road rallies,....) and without a doubt it'll be the hottest car. I've got a ton of Lancia literature and if you care to watch, the 037 rally in action on video. It won the World Rally Championship and is the last legendary 2wd GroupB rallycar ever made.

 

For a long time they were in the $70,000-$100,000 range then then went to $250,000-$350,000 range. I guess will give them a call and see what they want for it.
I was looking at Alfa TZ1's but there are a lot of fakes and cars with stories out there. Don't feel like spending $350,000 and getting scammed. You really have to do your home work with these kinds of cars. Big component of value is race history.

 

Please inquire about the asking price of the street version.

Just poking around I have found a number of these cars for sale. I will give a report some time next week when I get some more info.

 

I'm looking for one, but they're still asking ridiculous prices... (for example the one from openingspost $250k)

 

Love that shot, of course it is leading over the M1 racecar? The race version of the Lancia is just sick!

 

Here is a model they just did of the Lancia Monte Carlo Turbo Group 5 from the
Giro d'Italia in 1979. The car has the short tail version and was driven by Gilles Villeneuve. That was back in the day when F1 drivers drove more than just F1 cars. This is available as a resin kit in 1/24th scale from Model Factory Hiro.

No one has been giving realistic prices on these cars. I guess I will see if one comes up for auction. There seems to be a good number for sale. Most are asking $225K-$300K which is twice as much as I think they are worth looking at todays Amelia Island results
