Well, I just made a potentially stupid purchase decision on eBay. Chalk it up to excitement, getting caught in the thrill of competition in bidding, and a moment of uncharacteristic naivety. So I saw these online last night, and I bid on them... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270351557343 Did I do something stupid? hahahaha
Don't worry. Based on his "0" feedback rating, you won't get them anyway. So you might as well have bought a 50 ct. diamond for the $380 you spent. ;-) Be careful.
haha I dunno though, it seems like it might be all screwed up... http://feedback.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=ejg1967&ftab=AllFeedback I see 9 feedback, one negative as a buyer. All over 90 days old. And he has sold a jukebox, too... Paypal is the plan. We'll see though. And I was thinking I might have family who are down there next week pick it up for me, however they threw up their arms in a huff about them taking up all the space in their car, blah blah blah. Oops. Didn't think it'd be a big deal to them. Oh well.
Looks like the wheels I had on my GT4 (same one that Carreaper bought from me). Photos of that car are on several different threads around here somewhere, so you may have seen them. This is many years ago now, but I had gotten the ones I had (from Ted Rutland I believe) for somewhere around 800-1k or something like that. They looked great on the GT4 I thought.
That's good then if you paid that much. I can pay someone else to have them refinished and still have a free set of slicks. ;-) BBS is also good. I'm thinking of re-doing the centres in grabber orange on my red car, hahaha
Another thought...if you decide you dont want them i might as i live a few minutes from SF and need a set of track wheels. just let me know. for 380 $ you can't go too wrong as long as they are straight.
They look like BBS wheels. I have them on my 308 (The centers are gold on mine) and they are nice rims IMO. Well, hop eit works out well for you.
contact a local frieght terminal, they will tell you what shipping terminal the seller should take them to,have seller saran wrap the wheels to a pallet and drop off at that terminal, could be cheap going truck freight. If seller has no pallet, take wheels to terminal and they will give him a pallet free and bring your own saran wrap.I just shipped a 950lb miller tig welder 1200 miles for less than $300.Those wheel should be less than $100,but you have to go get them at the terminal.good luck, thats a great price.
UPS will ship unboxed items like wheels. I just checked with them as I have 4 spare 14" Cromodoras someone had a passing interest in. UPS quoted me $50 each from Portland to Arizona. They simply put a tag on them and off they go. Insurance adds another couple bucks if you want it...$100 is included.
Well to Canada (I live in Vancouver, B.C.) it's only $138 via fedex for the four seperate boxes. The problem is brokerage fees but I can save that by picking them up at the airport warehouse for fedex myself. I dunno, guess I just bought them quick and was having second thoughts, despite knowing it's a fantastic price. We've all done it before with some purchase. Now I have the agonizing task of deciding whether to sell my 17" Borbet Typa A's (17x7.5") or refinish those as well and have two sets (I get bored easily) If these are in fact BBS, they'd be a two piece wheel, correct? Or are they just made to look like one? Oh and carreaper, I can't believe I'm saying this but... NICE Mondial! I don't even like Mondials and that one has me drooling!
Hey Grandma, One of us is "Sideways" - - where is this Mondial that you speak of? BTW, if you get the wheels, it will have been a good deal If ya don't.................. Cheers, Hank
http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=897817&stc=1&d=1236560999 This is a mondial here, no? And thanks for the offer. I'll see what they're like when they're in hand and see how much they tickle my fancy. I'm currently running a set of these on my car: Team Dynamics Rim2000 They came with the car, but I don't really like them. 16x7.5" wide. The last owner's kid curbed the heck out of them however. Then I bought a set of 17" Borbet Type A's that were supposed to be in exceptional condition, the product did not live up to the photos whatsoever - And they're sitting waiting for me to decide what to do. I was going to refinish them but I sort of lost my drive to, after being so disappointed and fighting the seller through paypal (I ended up getting some money back, but not as much as I would have liked) This is what I was promised with the borbets: This is what I got: One of the boxes had a nasty orange mystery grease covering everything: One of the four centrcaps were bent beyond repair... Finish on one: One of them was bent: So they were (are) a mess. I found another set of BMW fitment borbets in really nasty shape for $80, bought them for the centrecaps: And then I hunted down more centrecaps on eBay, and then found some in my local 80's performance shop I've made friends with, and now I have lots of caps... I have about 3-4 more caps than that now, three are like new. The BMW Borbets I turned around and sold for $250 even in appalling condition. After hunting it all down and getting refinishing quotes of about $400-500, including straightening and all that - I just lost motivation. I dunno if I really want them anymore. Maybe I'll take them to the shop and throw them in the sandblaster and tackle em' and think about it... I'm probably into them total for $900 at the moment. Do I really want to refinish them and spend that much? I just don't know anymore. I turned down an offer from a gentleman on here who wanted to buy two of them a few months ago. Maybe I should have sold him the set, at that time I still loved them and I turned him down immediately. I told him he could still get 16" versions however, Borbet still makes them, and suggested he might like to go with a staggered 17/16" combo. And then the team dynamics on the car are all curbed and sad. Bah. I just want a nice set of wheels! Is that too much to ask?
its ok, glad to help. i miss the 308GT4, i found the file the pics were in. i think the wheels made the car feel great on the road. they are much lighter than the QV replicas.
BBS 16" rims are valuable to anyone still running TRX Metrics - $380 is cheap money for solid, replacement 16" rims with the correct hole pattern for a 308. I would get those things sandblasted and refinished, though....
So does anyone here know whether these are a two or three piece wheel? Or are they just made to look like a multi-piece?
I agree...I have a set of BBS..if he says they fit, you may be ok.....they are 3 piece, spun aluminum outer rims, you can paint the inner section anything you want.. Once they arrive measure them and if they don't work for you maybe I'll buy them as "spares"....it takes FIVE wheels to make a SET for our cars....man, I wish they'd get that, instead of leaving 4 pc. orphans everywhere....
This is bad news, I might end up with different coloured centers, gold bolts, and a massive lip in the rear... Uh oh. My car craziness combined with my habit of getting bored quickly with wheels combined with my need to keep myself busy with small projects...
BTW I found a set of FIVE ROH ZS wheels in 17" with an 18mm offset, 5x108 - BRAND NEW and asking $540 for all five. Are you interested? Is anyone else interested?
I think running anything past 16" on OEM suspension is asking for trouble, but that's just my opinion..... No, I bought some 14" s last week I am good for now, I was just offering encouragement on the BBSs....
A larger wheel, but a lower profile tire, would be alright so long as the total diameter of the wheel/tire combo didn't change too much.
