I am quite surprised that Nick Heidfeld time is the fastest recorded so far. His time is 3/10 faster then last years pole time, this is very encourging.

Not anymore; this is the FINAL test of the year. These are very important test dates - only 3 days left; then it's only racing.............

Jenson completed 82 laps over the course of the day and set the fourth fastest time overall. Team-mate Rubens will join the Brawn GP team in Barcelona tomorrow to take over the BGP 001 car from Jenson.

    JENSON BUTTON
"It has been a good first day in the BGP 001 with our new team, Brawn GP. I'd like to start by thanking everyone at the team for all the hard work that has contributed to getting us here today. We have enjoyed a positive opening day of running at our first test and achieved a total of 82 laps, which we are all very pleased with. We did experience a problem with the gearbox late in the day but we knew we might face some reliability issues in view of our lack of testing. Fortunately, it's a minor problem that is easily addressed. It's early days yet but generally it has been a positive start to our pre-season preparations."

    Go Button

Today saw Scuderia Ferrari initiate its final test session at the Catalunya Circuit, near Barcelona, prior to the start of the World Championship season.

Kimi Raikkonen was tasked with taking the controls of the Ferrari F60, alongside nine other teams testing here – the first time this year that all the teams have been present at the same time.

The Finnish driver worked on finding the best set-up for the car, on reliability and on a comparison between various aerodynamic solutions.

Raikkonen covered a total of 81 laps, the quickest in a time of 1:20.
908, second fastest on the day.

Testing continues at this circuit tomorrow, again with Raikkonen on track.

I completely forgot that guy even exists. What do you think, will he again receive the "most unimpressive driver of a top team" award in the upcoming season?

IMO McLaren are sand bagging. They won't show their pace until the first race. The fact that they waited to roll out their new floor so late so that others couldn't copy it for the first race tells me they know exactly what their doing ( http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73642 ). If they didn't think it'd be a big performance advantage (it had to have shown an advantage in the wind tunnel or it wouldn’t have made it on to the car at this point) they would have rolled it out in an earlier test. They'll continue to run their own pace up until maybe the last day of this test. If they don't have a car on the front row after qualifying in Australia I'll be very, very surprised.

I have already stated it wouldn't surprise me if Brawn get's a car on the podium, JB or RB, now this maybe like betting on a wooden three legged horse in a national, but I feel my odds are getting better.

Now I hope your not being sarcastic with your retort, tell me I'am wrong.

I don't think they'll get a car on the podium this season. With all the trouble over the last months, I doubt that the team was able to work like they should. Next season maybe.

Not sarcastic, just a question. I don't think Button will do anything fabulous, he may podium but any driver can podium once a year no matter who they drive for, circumstances change during every race.

Yeh I know it's a long shot, but I for one would like to see them do it, just to show Honda how it's done, I think alot of work has been done on this car before hand, Brawn probably had this deal boxed of along time ago.

    Ok

if the cars half decent and we have a few wet races then JB has a good chance of a podium or 2

Brawn GP need sponsors, and my thinking is that Button was running for that yesterday with low fuel in his tank.

Didn't all pay attention on that result?? I think we all are, so...

That is a pretty good trick to be able to run 82 laps on low fuel. You have to explain that trick some day. :D
