Great you drive them so much. No sense in letting them rot in storage. What fun is that?

Jim, you are the penultimate Ferrari owner. Glad to see that you use your cars. After all, they ARE cars!

 

Like your sig says, your should s**t your pants; hence, if you don't drive them, constipation results!
I drive mine a lot, always have. Will put 300mi on in an afternoon going nowhere.
Delivered Girl Scout cookies in the 599 (wish I had a pic of their faces), take the kids to school in them, drive to work, go to the store....
Get warmed up, and driven hard on lots of open roads everywhere, safely, always with significant margins.

Not necessarily a super Ferrari here but 400+ miles on an R8 in just under 50 days. Not bad considering the dealer had to take it back for a week. It's more than a friend of mine has put on his 430 in 6 months. They're no fun standing still!

 

Far from a supercar, but i put 34000 miles on my Porsche in a little over 2 years. Despite the snow and 6 flat tires .

This might be the best thread I have ever seen on F Chat. Thanks. A supercar that sits is nothing more then an object. I have a good friend/customer that owns several Ferraris and won't drive them because they will go down in value... It's a shame he didn't enjoy his collection because they have gone down in value recently. I understand that Ferraris are not daily drivers for the most part, but why own one if you're just going to look at it? Buy a painting instead.

 

I picked up a gallon of milk in a Countach.

 

My wife and I put about 700 miles on the Carrera GT in just over 24 hours. My buddy and his wife followed (and led) in my 993tt. We even had to seek shelter from a surprise hail storm. Next time I'll check the weather!

 

What a pleasant change to view a thread about cars that are actually used rather than threads about 950 mile F40s or 2000 mile F40s as if that is something great.

I have covered about 9,000 miles in 2 years and 3 months in my 348

 

1995 355 Spider - 12,000 miles in 5 years.

 

SLR - 19k in 2 years
SLR 722 - 9k in 1 year
Sessanta - 10k in 1 year
FXX - 3k of tracking in 2 years, now on the Evo engine

288 GTO - 1k in 5 years....... Sorry..........!!

 

Great Matt... I completely agree! Too bad these cars are treated as paintings and not enjoyed and shared more often. I can only think of a few things that can be enjoyed more at a lower cost per mile, and some of the best have been enjoyed for a few thousand years!

Even though it's my daily, my e92 has nearly 26K in 2 years. Which March 1st happens to be exactly 2 years.

 

How about this for a very unlucky bug? Well, crum - it's a BMP and my SnagIt has run out of license.

Anyway it was a bug on the nose of the Testarossa; that same trip I pretty much traded fiberglass and asphalt trying to get in and out of the German Restaurant where the Dallas group had lunch.

Here's the deal from the other side: (we of the Texas unwashed) - I have a modest, low-cost collection: Only 3 cars right now, but one daily driver that is almost a collecter by my low standards.

1965 Corvair Corsa Turbo - 66,000 miles. (it is still on the transporter as we speak)
1986 Ferrari Testarossa - 24,000 miles. (it had 21,500 bought 2006)
1995 Corvette ZR-1 - 35,000 miles. (it had 14,500 bought 2000)
1996 Porsche 993 Targa (my driver) - 104,000 miles. (it had 42,000 bought 2001)

What I am doing is to just rack up miles on the 993, (which I love as one of the last true air-cooled cars), and limit the others to maybe 1200 miles per year.

Sometimes I save miles over a winter and then splurge on a trip: The Vette has been to Colorado for a mountain tour, the Ferrari has now been up into the SE Oklahoma hills once, and then again to Hot Springs Arkansas for a foliage tour. The Corvair probably goes down to hill country Texas this spring for a big Corvair meet they have there every year.

That may sound like Ebenezer Scrooge miles on the collector cars, but I do drive them a little and always once a month. This is what I would call "sustainable car collecting" for somebody in my position, and at least they are being driven a little and preserved by somebody who cares.

EDIT: Maybe I don't belong in "super Ferraris" with that Testarossa, but Napolis listed his that he drove heroically to 140 some thousand miles!

 

F-355 -- drove 21K miles in 3.5 years.
360 CS -- drove 5K miles in 1.5 years
F-50 -- drove 3K miles in 1.5 years (I owned this car 50/50 with a friend who also drove it about 3K miles in that time)
550 Barch -- 32,000 miles in 4.5 years (bought it with 6K on the odo)

Others: M-5 100K miles, 911, 40K miles, M-6 about 50K miles

They were made for driving.

I applaud all those who drive the heck out of them.

I once had a guy who said to me that I was devaluing my 360 CS by about $20 every time I drove a mile. (Didn't worry about his math.)

I smiled and said to him, "It's worth every penny."
