Has anyone tried the kind of battery maintainer that plugs into he cigarette lighter for a F430 like a Porsche Charge o mat? Seems like it would be lot easier to use than the factory one.

I have one on my 360. It works very well. The lighter plug is a inexpesive optional piece that recplaced the hardwired end.

Here is one I puchased on ebay. From what I was told, its the same charger/maintainer that was OE by Ferrari. Just dons'nt have the Ferrari markings/logo.

Be careful, I don't think the 430 is compatible with the chargers that plug into the cigarette lighter. Do a search, I believe the topic has been discussed before.

I read that that the cigarette lighter (CL) charger function only works IF the CL 12V is powered when the ignition is off. I tested my CS at the weekend and there is no power in the CS CL when the ignition is off ???

I would stay away from the C.L. socket on the 430.

Hard wire the tender behind the driver's seat with a two-prong rubber coverd plug.

    Safer and smarter.

I have a Boxster (my daily driver) on a Porsche Charge O Mat that I plug in over the weekend (recharges to full within 12-24 hours)...so when I purchased my 360 earlier this year, I made sure the dealer threw in the Ferrari charger...the one that is hard wired to the car...the car is driven at best once a week until the weather clears, so it is always plugged in...

For me personally, my take was these cars cost enough and don't chance it with a cheap charger. Case in point - who has purchased cheap cell phone chargers from eBay that crap out...

Like I said Ferrari New England threw it in and the Porsche was $70 - from the dealer...no biggie.

Factory Ferrari charger is very overpriced.

The Interstate or Deltran's are about $60-$70 and do just great.

The battery maintainer works well in the 360 Modena, in the CS I had to rewire the CL first because it is not working while the ignition is off.

I thought all 430's came with a battery tender from the factory.

In my '07 coupe, there's a "D" shaped connector under the dash on the passenger side right about where the passenger's right knee is and a factory supplied tender that plugs into it.

If, for some reason, you don't have the Ferrari-supplied tender you can buy a Deltran tender (http://batterytender.com/default.php?cPath=11_2) which will come with a series of connectors... one of which will mount right to your car's battery and, as said before, will give a two-prong pig-tail you connect to the tender itself.

There have been other threads posted with pictures and instructions (like tape the wrench completely to avoid making contact between the battery terminal and the car's metal body). Search for this and you'll be fine.

Richard, I dit not do it myself - I let my dealership do it, but it was not expensive (they had to remove the central console)

Tried the charge o mat and a clicking sound started so I pulled it out immediately. Connected the Ferrari battery maintainer- I have an 05 and it is connected into a socket under a cover in the front trunk near the driver side windshield. What a PITA. After doing that the green and yellow light starting blinking meaning that something is not connected. I guess this is what I get for buying an Italian car.

Dealer tells me that the blinking green and yellow is normal until the battery is charged up. After searching other threads, I am moving the the CTEK.
