R.I.P. '' Mask '', I'm going to try to remember this day the next time I think about risking someone's life on the street, I have my 10 year old son to thank for helping me not to ever street race again.

Tough loss to the MMA community indeed. I joked with a friend that those guys were like the insane clown posse, and then I was introduced to one of the other principals in the company and he was actually pretty cool. Having lived in that area I know how you can want to get on the throttle and blow through there, toss in alcohol and women, and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what could happen.

    RIP.

It's strange to see how the Modena was sawed in half around the cockpit, whereas the Enzo crash of a year ago had the car being sheared just behind the firewall, keeping the passenger compartment intact, and everyone alive. I suppose the outcome has a lot to do with the point of impact of the car on the pole, but I was under the impression that light poles were themselves designed to crumple when hit. I would have expected to see the passenger compartment fare better in this type of collision, unless he was simply traveling at way too great a speed.

This happens all too frequently. Alcohol + testosterone + female in passenger's seat + Alpha Male personality + high performance sports car = bad result. All it takes is a few seconds of stupidity for anyone and you are in over your head. I let someone get to me the other day at a traffic light when they made an illegal pass of my 348 in the intersection. I was going to tailgate the SOB and harrass him all the way home to teach him a lesson. Luckily I was sober and got ahold of myself. None of us are immune from these situations. That damned red mist comes on fast sometimes. Sadly, we need events like these to remind us of our behavior. Thanks, Mask, for the lesson. I will try not to forget.

Could it be that it was sawed by the rescuers? It said in one of the stories that they had to cut his body out of the car, so they may have just cut the car in two?

TMZ has confirmed the owner of the TapouT MMA clothing line died this morning when his ultra-rare $300,000 Ferrari crashed into a light pole, ripping the car in half.

TMZ has learned Charles Lewis Jr. -- aka "Mask" -- was driving his Ferrari Modena in Orange County, Calif. around 1:00 AM this morning when cops say it "left the roadway, hit the curb, took out a light pole."

"Mask" was declared dead at the scene. A female passenger -- who was ejected from the crash -- was taken to a local hospital, but we're told she's in bad shape.

Cops believe "Mask" was racing a guy in a Porsche at the time of the crash, and authorities have since arrested the guy they believe was driving the other car. That man -- Jeffrey David Kirby -- is being held on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter.

UPDATE: A rep for TapouT released this statement: "It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we must regretfully confirm the passing of our beloved friend, brother and co-founder Charles "Mask" Lewis following a car accident that occurred last night. We are currently in the process of setting up a memorial service in his honor and will release more details as they become available. Many thanks to all for the outpouring of blessings and well-wishes during this incredibly difficult time."

"Skid marks could be seen along the roadway leading up to the site of the crash. The rear of the Ferrari came to rest more than 30 feet away from the front end.

The Porsche had moderate damage, indicating that it had collided with the Ferrari, authorities said."

I'm thinking that they were racing when the F-driver looked over or misjudged(buzzed) where the curb was and either hit it or saw it then jerked the wheel causing the car to oversteer.(very easy in a 360/CS) He then over compensated bumping the P-car, completely losing control and crashed into the poll or whatever it was. Mr. P driver knew that he'd be dead meat after this being drunk, with his track record so he tried to save his own @ss by taking off. The cop witness was what nailed Mr. P. I doubt the F passenger will ever remember what happened even if she survives. I don't think Mr. P caused him to lose control by hitting his car first.

The twisty lines of a car out of control are of the Porsche not the F Car.. The porsche clipped the ferrari mid drift and the f car slid sideways for 150yards before broadsiding the Poll..
Look at my 3rd picture. The straight line is the Ferrari and the squigly lines behind it are the porsche...

I agree, Mr P would be balled up with the Ferrari , if he lost it bumping into the F wouldn't save him.

The question is what caused them to lose control? Who hit who first if that's what happened? The F car is still in an over steer situation,(rear end is coming around as evidenced by the skid and the guy couldn't do anything about it) while the P car was trying to keep it on the road which he did.
