The Palawan website now shows that they have only 13 leatherbound editions left. See: http://www.palawan.co.uk/BookDetail.aspx?BookID=50&Name=Ferrari%20in%20Camera Although that number should actually be one less, since (after a few sleepless nights) I finally ordered a copy for my collection this morning The price for the very last 10 editions will go up by GBP 500 (!), so if you want one for the "old" price, you´d better be quick! Ciao, Lars T.
I own a copy of Ferrari in Camera; it is a great book. However, that notice has been on the Palawan website for years, so no real need to panic. Plus, the regular blue clothbound version has been showing up at relatively low prices on eBay lately. IIRC, there was one a couple of months ago that took quite a while to sell for USD 730.
Interestingly, I received an email from Palawan's publishing manager yesterday afternoon, which I quote here: "We received your faxed order this morning, and your book has already been despatched by courier. You have managed to get the very last copy!" Now I suppose she means the very last copy of the three available for the "normal" price, with the final 10 available only for the "increased-by-GBP 500-price". But just to make sure, I have sent another email to ask her about this. As soon as I find out if Palawan is down to 10 or down to 0 copies of the book, I'll post it here. Well, I suppose my copy should arrive today or tomorrow. I'm very, very much looking forward to seeing it Ciao, Lars T.
Congrats on obtaining a truly wonderous volume. When you have time, please post some pics when you receive it. Except for Palawans website i have never seen the leather bound edition. Unfortunatly i dont have the means to purchase it at either price, so i'll just have to envy yours. GT
Hi Grant, Thanks! Actually I didn't have the means myself for many years to purchase it, but always had it in the back of my mind. And to be honest I (literally) had some sleepless nights lately over the question if I should spend such an amount for just one book. But now that I have ordered it, I will force myself to forget about the price and just enjoy it! I'd be more than happy to post some pics once I have received it. I should have time for that this weekend, so you can have another look at this thread soon Ciao, Lars T. PS: I'd actually also really like one of the leatherbound versions of "Making a Difference", but it really would be too soon after my other purchase. Maybe in a few months time
Hello from Germany, I purchased ' Ferrari in Camera ' back in 1996 when it was brand new. Cloth bound edition for a special price of DEM 850,--, what would calculate to around EUR 425,- today. In a different posting regarding this book I forgot to mention, that Palawan gave me one of their big bookstore promoting poster ( ~ 90x70 cm / 35 x 28 " ) for free together with my purchase. I could choose which I liked most. There was also one with a yellow 275 GTB/4 Comp. I framed it and it still hangs on our living room wall. I have around 60 pictures on my harddrive, which I scanned to show them a friend some years ago. I would be glad to show you those. How much should I pack into one single posting ? They are only ~ 140 kb each. Best Regards Martin Image Unavailable, Please Login
o.k.; I limit this thing to some of my favorites. I hope you like them too. Stunning... absolutley stunning. This book has always been on the top of my wish list, so i always knew it was great. But this is the first time i've seen good shots of the interior pages and i am just blown away... thank you for posting those. The P3/4 shots just leave me speechless... once i get that Government bailout i'm expecting anyday now, i have GOT to get that. GT
Wow, dankeschön Martin! For me too, that´s the first time that I see how the book looks like inside (I bought it based on its reputation alone) and I´m very impressed indeed! I hope it will arrive tomorrow, so that I can see the other pages too Ciao, Lars T.
Hello again Martin, Any idea what the price of the leatherbound edition was back in 1996? Ciao, Lars T.
Hm, also interesting, but quite expensive too! Do I understand correctly that a hand-built MR 1/43 F40 is included in this price? Maybe someone knows if this book is also numbered/limited? Thanks and ciao, Lars T. PS: The price is 65,000 Yen PLUS 10,000 Yen shipping costs for Europe/USA, which brings the price to 600 Euro.
Lars; IIRC the leatherbound edition was twice the clothbound edition. GBP 500,--. The conversion rate GBP / DEM was 3,4. Therefore the DEM 850,-- ( GBP 250,-- ) Shipping was included with both prices. Best Regards Martin
I purchased my cloth-bound Ferrari In Camera from a British seller right at the height of the pound, so I paid the equivalent of about $1,100. I haven't regretted it for a moment. As much as I wanted the leather bound edition, the price was just too dear. I would really like to have one of those posters! Jack
Hi Martin, Thanks! So the price has gone up quite a bit since then! I just paid GBP 1500, which is about EUR 1700. GBP 500 sounds like a real bargain nowadays. Sometimes it is better not to wait too long with a purchase, it seems... Ciao, Lars T.
Hello again, Palawan responded to my email yesterday and it looks like there are still two copies available for the GBP 1500 price. Here's what they wrote: "I realise that my email*was a bit misleading. To clarify, you received the last bound copy in stock, however we still have 12 more to bind up. The next two will be sold at £1500 and after that the price will go up to £2000. Apologies for the confusion" So, still two chances left to purchase a copy for the old price, in case anyone's interested Ciao, Lars T.
Hi Lars, I actually found an old Palawan leaflet with the prices from around year 2002. When there were still clothbound editions available their last price was GBP 400,--. The leatherbound editions cost GBP 1250,-- at that time. AND - in case you don't know; there was a tiny amount of 20 copies of a so called 'Ferrari edition' for GBP 2000,--. This was neither cloth nor leatherbound, but covers made from sheetmetal painted in Rosso Corsa 300. The price I paid was - like mentioned previously - a special offer only available for the very first weeks after they have published the book. Don't know how it's called in English. Translated word by word, it's called the ' subscription price '. Best Regards Martin
Thank you Martin, for your interesting comments! Are you certain about the number of 20 "Ferrari Editions"? Maybe there might even only be 10 of these? Or did the Palawan leaflet state 20? Ciao, Lars T.
Here's what Palawan emailed me yesterday concerning the limited "Ferrari Edition" of Ferrari in Camera: Ciao, Lars T. "The rumours are true we did do a special Ferrari Edition back in 2002. There were only 10 copies made and the specs were as follows: These ten copies are quarter bound with either a blue or black vellum spine and specially milled aluminium front and back covers, sprayed with the classic red Ferrari paint to vehicle quality finish. They are attached by means of rivets with the leather around the spine, fitting snugly into a rebated area on the inside. The spine has the title foil blocked in silver, the end papers are yellow Mingei Japanese paper and the book is encased in either a blue or black buckram drop-back solander box. As far as I know these werent made to mark any particular occasion, just something special that the designer was keen to do."
we must have the same brochure... Palawan puts out some spectular books. when i inquired about the book, they sent this along with 2 or 3 (poorly) photocopied pages. GT Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
