If you were in the market for a daily driver and had this choice which would you choose and why? I know they are night and day machines but we could be in the market very shortly and got a bit torn on the decision between these two. Im not too concerned which is faster or which has a higher top end or its 0-60 times. What im looking for is relability (the main concern), over all cruising comfort (would be used as a touring car from NC to our house in cocoa beach) and how it adapts in traffic. In looking at the 599 posts I have read that most owners love having this car as a daily driver, but I have read from some that it can be a nightmare especially in not so fair weather. This prompted me to check out the Gallardo since its AWD system provides some traction in inclement weather. Plus the V10 was a bit more "tame" at highway speeds according to some owners I have talked too. The sound of these beasts basically evens out for me so this is a non issue in regards to which sounds the best. It wont be a track car at all and will not be taken to track days what so ever but I will have a little fun with it when the wife falls asleep. I know some of you people are saying to yourself for me to get a Mercedes or BMW 7 series and be done with it since I wont be "using" the car how it was designed however that is not my style and I prefer a little more "pop" in my cars. I have my retirement days to finally settle for a big ole Merc or 7 series. :) I am unfamiliar with the 599 so any info you have to share concerning daily driving, traffic characterics, ride comfort, driver feedback etc. would be great. ESPECIALLY if you have owned a Gallardo as well.

    Many Thanks

The 599 is a GT in every sense of the word - long trips are what it THRIVES on!

Anyways, I'd vote 599GTB because I've driven both, and well - One's a ferrari, the other is an audi.

Both in inclement weather have extreme performance summer tires - AWD won't save you when it gets hairy, just give you more traction from a stop - and if you're feathering the throttle in either car that's not an issue.

I'm actually switching from a LP560 into a 599. The biggest reason behind the move is because of practicality and performance. There is also less attention when you drive the F-car around town (I know, but there IS a difference when it comes to people gawking at you in a flashy colored Lamborghini).

Take my word for it, you will love the 599!

I can only say the Lamborghini makes a great driver be it in rain, snow, or sun we get it all here in Seattle but if you're bringing anything more than golf shoes on your long drives it doesn't make a ton of sense. As for statements of Lamborghinis being Audis, these people have little to no time in or around them. Audi has brought some good things to the table on the engineering side(hate the Audi/Gallardo console though) and while a second to Ferrari, I would take the Gallardo over any other Ferrari competitor. I have not driven a 599 so I cannot say a thing, they sound great but a sceaming V10 sounds better to me. Good luck

I can' take this kind of question seriously.
The Lambo was never designed to be a daily driver from any aspect. It has no real world storage, it is awkward to get in and out of, it is too low to the ground to be practical in urban driving and it is very unhappy trickling around at slow speeds due to its relative lack of torque. The only advantage it has is the screaming colors will give a nanosecond of warning before the semi next to it moves into its lane and crushes it..

The 599 on the other hand really is just a very expensive very competent car that does it all.

I haven't driven a Gallardo, but a 599 has immense boot space, more than even an SL, great for every day use. It rains like hell in my country, so I've basically driven it more in the wet than in the dry, and there aren't any problems at all as long as you set the manettino to wet mode (the thingy below sport). I've seen the traction control kick in a couple of times when I over accelerated in the wet, but I never once felt like I lost any control at all. The car is comfortable as hell and easy to drive in heavy traffic conditions, plus you can set it on auto if you're feeling lazy. It is also very quiet when driven at low rpm, you can have conversations in the car and drive home in the middle of the night without waking the entire neighbourhood up.

The car is quite wide though, wider than most cars, so depending on how wide the roads in your country are, you may have a few problems getting to certain places. I've never been to the states, but my friends who've visited say that your roads are far wider than the roads in Singapore, so I suppose car width should be a non-issue. There are also no cup holders, which is kinda irritating occasionally when used as a daily driver, but nothing a few aftermarket modifications cannot solve.

The 599 is definitely very suited to use as a daily driver. I don't think there are any glaring problems with the car at all, aside from the fact that you might need to park it in safer places than a normal car if you're overly concerned about the safety of your vehicle.

If it was me, I would have wished for some "Audi-ness" in my 599 so that it would have less reliability problems. To each his own I guess. Anyways, to answer the original poster's question, the 599 is a better car for daily driving than the Gallardo. The 599 has a quieter ride, more luxurious interior, and a much better stereo system than the Lamborghini (I think it has 4 speakers, just like the F430). You also sit in a more upright position in the 599, which allows you to see better around you. The things that I missed about the Lambo was the lifting system on the car (I use this ALL THE TIME) and the all wheel drive when the weather isn't ideal.

I own a 599 and had a 06 Gallardo. Their is no doubt in my mind, the 599 is "Supreme" in all comparisons. Go Fiorano!

The awd system and lifting of the front end was exactly why most of the owners of the Gallardo led me towards looking at it for a daily. Well that and the V10 which was not so "strung out". My main concern however was the relability on both cars. This car is going to be used a lot! It wont be sitting for a week or not being used because it is raining. In fact, sadly I should say, I will not even be able to but this thing in our garage. It will be outside unfortunately. I have a test drive scheduled for next week for a 07 599 so I can get a feel on how it drives. But I have always heard that F-cars are very "finicky" and daily driving was not what a F-car was designed for. Not saying a BO is but I have had many owners of BO's (Gallardo's mainly) stating they have not had problems.

If a 599 is not a daily driver, then any Lambo shouldn't ever be started.
There is nothing finicky about modern Ferraris. They are competent functional cars that start and run without issues. Older Ferraris no doubt have reliability problems, but 599's, 612's, 360's and 430's are no different to running any other high buck car like a Benz. In fact my S sedan has had more finicky issues than the 599. The 599 also has more miles now.

:-o I would NEVER say that. Not to anybody I liked.

599 or G--what a choice! Hope whichever one you get is everything you dreamed it would be and more. Better yet, how about one of each--drive the 599 to Florida and have the G transported down and waiting for you when you get there.

Well, some may argue on that. On my friend's 430, the driver side door was stuck and couldn't be opened. It was quite funny when I went for a ride with him to get a cup of coffee and he suddenly looked at me and said "Uh...do you mind getting the coffee? I can't open my door apparently!"

I had some minor electrical issues on my 430 as well. However, during my ownership of my LP560, there were zero reliability problems but one fit/finish issue with the passenger side A-pillar window frame that had excessive wind noise.

But I can't see having the Gallardo as a daily driver. It's just too flashy, too rough in its ride and sits way too low to be driven comfortably on a daily basis. I think the 599 is better than any Lamborghini in this aspect. To me, a daily driver is a car that you could go any where with, like going to the supermarket and parking it without worries. Now, would you really take your 599 everywhere and just park it outside in the parking lot?

Well, looks like its back to the drawing board... Someone (a dealer in fact) has thrown in the 612 to be a possibility. I have done zero research on this car but I was shocked to hear her say this since I just looked up some prices an it looks as if I can get a 612 for anywhere to 50K to 100K less than the 599. Figured a dealer would always try and "upsell" you. Especially since she knows the money is there. To be honest, I have never owned a F-car before and have no clue what the major differences are between these two. However it does make sense from a financial standpoint to pay less for a car that would give me just as much satisfaction as the 599 would since I will only be using it as a daily. I will be doing some more research on the 612 to learn more about it. Looks like the Gallardo may no longer be a option.

The 612 has been around for some time now. While cheaper it retains less of it's original value than the 599 does. The 599 has a detuned version of the engine from the Enzo. The 599 is in a class of it's own...

    Had a Gallardo...Drove a 599 many times.

599 is a pure GT. Gallardo is a pure pain in the a$$. Uncomfortable, unreliable (at least mine was), and had ground clearance that was worse than an F1 car. Scraped the front spoiler on every speed bump and incline in the country.

I do, just about every day. It has been to the market, parked in dodgy lots behind US Airways Arena downtown, parked at meters on the street etc etc. I know I will get some flames directed at me, but the car is so competent, it is really just a car. It is insured against damage and loss and it serves my needs perfectly when I don't need to carry more than one passenger.

I have had both. Since you have never had a Ferrari, you will be blown away by the 612. For a daily driver it is even more versatile than the 599. More room, maybe a little softer ride, Tons of power, and still beautifull, cheaper to buy, cheaper to sell, wonderful car, still MUCH better than the Gallardo for this purpose. Can't go wrong with the choice between the two.

Mine hit 9300 yesterday, off to Santa Barbara in it Sunday, it is my daily driver. I try to be sensible when parking, but I dont let worrying about parking stop me from taking it wherever. I do not, however, give it to valets. It goes to the touchless car wash in LJ, since they are about a block from Symbolic, FMSD and Jim Lyons they know how to drive it enough to wash it. I stopped worrying about cars a long time ago and just drive 'em.

I have an 08 Gallardo Spyder and an 08 599.
Both are great cars, so far very reliable (the "Audi" feels better made, less delicate).

The 599 is definitely the better daily driver, since it is a very comfortable touring car, easy to drive, easy to get in and out of, less noticeable.

The Gallardo is more exciting, sounds way better, and will probably last longer (it's an Audi after all!). But better suited to taking out for special occasions, than a true daily driver. Having said that, I did "daily drive" mine to the office many days last summer, until I realized that I was putting way too many miles on the car, (7000km in three months), and realized that like Ferrari, no one wants to buy a used Lambo that has been driven more than a couple of times!

Have you driven a 612 yet? Once you do, I think your decision will be made. Driving from NC to Cocoa - the 612 would be perfect.

    Your comment hits it exactly.
Having owned a 05 Gallardo and a 07 Gallardo Spyder with e-gear I can absolutely agree with You that the 599 appears
to me as the better car for daily use.
I own a 599 since late last year and have not used it too often, but in the short comparison I can make it seems far better suited for if You want to use the car regularly.

The Gallardo is especially in town a diva and you have to accept a more than harsh ride and (at least in e-gear) a very
    strange shifting pattern.
As soon as the street clears of course the Gallardo plays it's strength and is one of the best sounding cars on earth inside
    as well as outside.

599 with Tubi will easily compete with the Gallardo in the sound department...
