By Grays online in Australia. details www.AussieExotics.com under Ferrari for sale. Lets hope its restored .
Although described as a 250GTE body, it was actually a Pininfarina Coupe. Sold for around AUD8,600. Also sold was a 365GT4 body with separated rolling chassis (plus spare chassis) for AUD3,100
Rob means this one, bought by an AussieExotics member... ---> http://aussieexotics.com/forum/ferrari-for-sale/1958-ferrari-250-gte-22-t3815.0.html ... now seeking advice as to what the hell to do! Will point him back to this thread for additional help.
Hey folks, I am not sure if I am lucky or not what is the difference between both models I have read the thread on the PF and looks great I am heading out there today to take further photos of it. Feel free to comment I need as much help as pos if I should part the car out or sell I know of a GT/E chasis for sale or how much would a replica cost to make? And how much for a the motor? I have spoken to the auctioneer and he had a senior Shannons assessor out there who said he is very surprised at the way the car is sooo straight! he said the that sills and panells are in such a good condition that you dont get that with a car like this. I need to go out and take some photos today to confirm.
My guess about 25k for a worn out motor. I know of a guy that has a 250GTE shell on his factory wall. Will ask a mate if he knows of a motor, few years ago he sold 3 x 250PF that were being turned into TR replicars in NZ.Plus a 250 GTE.
No chance. Think US$50K It will be much cheaper in reality to buy a complete (and real) PF and hang your shell on the wall as an artwork.
link to motors. would be a bit high, considering RM on the weekend sold a 330GT #6363 for 75kUS,complete good looking car.
I've a feeling the most economical route would be some sort of "resto-mod" project. I know, blasphemy! As cool as it would be to restore, the costs are making me sweat just thinking about it...
You are approaching the question using Jaguar or Porsche broker logic. You need to spend half a lifetime in the vintage Ferrari world to understand how things work. You can't learn it from books or the internet. Do you think the recognized experts built their business and reputation from a chat line? A 250 engine (and there are different types for different years) is more valuable than a 330. And you can be sure that every engine that is, or could be, for sale, everywhere in the world, is known about by people who know the value. Our friend Gooch is going to work out that he has made a mistake, walking into a vintage Ferrari project with no knowledge of what is involved.
Hence, resto-mod: Replacement chassis; small block American V8; mish-mash of gauges, instruments, seats, etc. That's the only way I could see it happening and, frankly, there's nothing wrong with that.
True. Except that the finished result will (a) not offer anything in the way of a Ferrari driving or ownership experience and (b) be worth less than the cost of building it. Some people are OK with this equation, which is fair enough.
Well for a start I regard myself more as a broker of Rolls Royce Bentley cars then Porsche/Jaguar. Well aware of the differnt types of 250 motors.I must ask a friend what a worn out 250 motor is valued at (he has had more experience then anyone I care to think of) 275,TDF,Boxers,Daytona's ect ect. So what is a 250GTE worth then , a ordinary car.
this has been for sale for almost 2 years now at $249k and is a good one. http://www.classicthrottleshop.com/car7.html $150-170 for an ordinary car
Ian,I have been around Ferrari cars all of my life, either friends or the many times my father had mates cars, so yea 25 years I agree with you.I have several times wanted to own 'em but only once the Boxer, loved the car but sold it because of one reason ........................ First time I was involved with a Ferrari was about 1963 ,when my father in his brand new Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 2 had a drag with his best mate whom had a brand new 330 up the main course of Flemington race track after a major horse meeting in the spring time. Both lost their D/Ls for a while. Funny I've asked around and no one knows the car or the owner a Bill White.
plus another A$150K to restore it! The value of ratty cars is uplifted because any 250GTE is a candidate for conversion to a GTO or TR lookalike, where the resale value does justify the conversion cost.
Which is A$125K. Then ship it here, pay the GST and Luxury tax and guess where you come out? Also, there were fewer RHD cars made, so an Aus delivered car is worth more.
