You should be much more specific in your request, as there was substantial variation in pricing during this
time, and variation in mrsp+ pricing, depending upon model.

 

The owner of my 1983 400i 5 speed from 1988-98 told me that he turned down an offer of $110,000 for the car in 1990. I paid a lot less than that in 1998.

 

My 91 Testarossa was first sold in May 1992 for 135,000 when the sticker was $175,XXX . So there were deep discounts on sticker.

 

Back when Crown was selling Ferraris in St Pete, I remember being in the showroom and seeing a new TR priced at $300K+. This was around 1989/1990.

At the end of 1989 and into early 1990 I recall seeing a 412i with either 200 miles or kilometers (I can't remember which), that the dealer was trying to sell for $200,000. Another dealer had an 86 328 GTS with 6,500 miles that they were selling for $124,000 (not sure why it wasn't 125), the same dealer wanted $150,000 for a new Mondial T Cabriolet when it arrived. I recall seeing TRs going for $285,000 to 300,000. There was also a dealer that had an 85 308QV that sold for $75,000. After the bubble burst prices on all of these cars fell drastically.

Your photo also reminded me that a dealer, who no longer sells Ferraris, wanted $200K for the 1st 348TS he was getting and $170K for the first TB that was to arrive. His requested premiums did not last long. By the time his first 348s arrived the bubble had already burst.

My 328 was advertised for around 145K in late 1990. The owner had aleady missed the peak.

My old 4HL 330 2+2...guy I bought it from said he turned down a $90K offer in 1990, I paid $32.5K in late '02.

 

My 1983 GTS QV was sold for $64,000.

 

I remember some of them roughly at the peak in 89.

246 Dinos were pushing 200K and above. 308s were pushing high 5 figures, I think some went over $100k. Clearly, the rising price tide raised all Ferrari ships at the time.

I also remember in the late 80s, you had to be on a wait list, or know someone at the dealership, to buy any new Ferrari.

Looks like nothing has changed in the last 20 years then!!

 

1989 and 1990 were the years where the new cars really began to generate premiums and the vintage cars drew speculators from all walks of life.

not uncommon for cars to have changed hands 5 or 10 times during that period. when the music stopped, many owners asked essex or midbanc to come and pick up their cars! not unlike what has been happening to housing in the current market!!
